how do I use tags in the comments section of my uploaded video, IE images, bold italic etc... can't seem to get it to work with forum tags

It wants HTML tags. Use <> instead of [].

The video comments box uses HTML tags, not forum tags, and supports <b> <i> <u> <strike> and <a> tags only, IIRC. Images are only possible though a CSS hack that I don't have on hand to copy-and-paste, but it's in several places on the forum already, search around some and you'll certainly find it.
