Uploading Issue!

Post by lingchou » Sun Oct 28, 2007 12:21 pm

Okay sorry for my noobish-ness but I have a problem with uploading my AMV into Animemusivideos.org

I entered it and everything, and I got my FTP information, so I typed in the Link into my URL, and click Page, and clicked Open FTP site in Windows Explorer...then I logged in with my given information, and I waited as it opened my documents..and it did. but thats ALL it did. I read moonslayers How-To Guide and it said that a drag-and-drop thing should appear..but it didn't for mine.
I've already downloaded my free FTP program, from the one in the guide, but still no drag-and-drop option, just my documents...

I'm seriously confused. D:

Well, I don't know about MSIE as I haven't used it for a long time, but maybe you're using IE7 and things are different? (the guides are from quite some time ago so maybe it's only in 5.5?) I remember IE opening up the FTP-folder and then you need to drag your file from your folder into the IE-window that has that FTP-site open.

I use WS_FTP to upload/download stuff from FTP-sites. It's not a free program though, but if you look through download.com you can see several free(ware) FTP-programs. I don't think they're that hard to use, as the principle is the same...

If you need a good FTP, ncFTP is a nice free one to use. It's command-line based, but the language is really easy to learn and use if you just want to access sites and place files.

Or, if you're like most non-CS types and prefer a GUI, you could try cuteFTP, SmartFTP, filezilla, or the Firefox plug in Fireftp. Of course, according to the ftp comparison wiki, IE 7.0 is still usable as an FTP client, so it's probably just that you're doing something wrong.

Internet Explorer is an alternative to using filezilla, not something you'd need in addition to it.
