How to Rip Encrypted Video from games such as KingdomHearts.

Post by ffxdean » Mon Apr 09, 2007 1:20 am

Hi, I thought of a great way to share information around by posting a thread just for ways of ripping those hard to find FMV's off PS2 Discs. (hope this thread gets stickied soon :) ) . I found a thread which claimed to have a way of extracting the FMVs from games such as Kingdom Hearts but with no luck, thats why i decided to make a new thread which everyone can post their useful information and then combined the posts which do have relative info into one big master project :) (it sounds a bit weird but its worth a shot  )

Well anyways since i started this thread i might as well post some information on what i found :)

PCSX2 - the LOG file which is shown when running the disc on PCSX2, shows us exactly the sectors of the file its reading from (for eg Sector 604733).

ISOBuster - this program lets you extract the sectors off the disc.

NOVA or CMP2 - this is a helpful PS2 FMV finder.

Results:
1. Played the intro of Kingdom Hearts using PCSX2 (making notes of when the file sector starts and Ends:

Start: CDRead: Reading Sector 709167 <1>
CDRead: Reading Sector 709168 <9>
CDRead: Reading Sector 709177 <7>
CDRead: Reading Sector 709184 <16 Blocks of size 2048)

End: CDRead: Reading Sector 815936 <16>
CDRead: Reading Sector 819264 <1>

2. Extracts the file using ISOBuster:

Starts from 709167
Ends 819264

Extracted File making a file size of 220, 196KB or 215MB

4. Scan the file using NOVA: currently found a Riff file.

I couldnt continue searching because i have the trial version of the program. I'll purchase it soon though  . In the meantime you guys have a go with this experiment and post your information (if you have any) that will help with extraction of Hidden FMV Files.

Thanks :D

Hey again.

I bought a licensed version and scanned through the extracted file.

Results:

No wonder nobody could find the FMVs in Kingdom Hearts, even while using an extractor such as Cube Media Player or Gigahertz tool etc.
This is because the FMVs arent produced in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 there in a pretty common format that is probably the last thing you could of thought of. The format of the file is a SFV (Shock Flash Object) it works in Windows Media Classic (Real Alternative).

YES!!!!! Im the first one to extract the intro of Kingdom Hearts. ok now i have to get the last FMV off the game which of coarse is the ending :) . Although there is no way im going to play the game right to the end using PCSX2. This is because it is so slow (takes 15min watching the intro of the game). If anyone knows of a patch/cheat or anyway for me to reach upto the ending fast using PCSX2 post it here.

Ok, well here's my update. I'm trying this with the Kingdom Hearts1: Final Mix though.

Not sure if its of any help...

But I tried numerous things and programs and absolutely nothing will play these swf files that were extracted. I even tried IrfanView and still nothing played.

Anyway.

1. I made an ISO to my computer of the KH Final Mix
2. Split it up into 500 MB peices or 1 GB peices using file splitter.
3. Searched for Riff files with Nova extractor, extracted them.
4. Searched the Riff files with Nova extractor for MPG and it actually found one at 989 MB of 1 GB but it froze and did no more.
5. Extracted SWFs instead and now nothing works to play these files. I either get errors saying there are no frames and whatnot in them. I downloaded numerous programs, even WinAVI and it still does not play the SWF files.
6. I only get two SWF files, the KH game has at least 3 FMVs in them, I think the secret ending is encoded differently.
