Just for shits and giggles, can you check whether your drives are using DMA transfer mode?

If you need to know how to check, go to Control Panel and open System. Click on the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category and double click on the Parallel ATA Controller to see its properties. Find your DVD drive on either the Primary Channel or most likely on the Secondary Channel tab. The Transfer Mode should say either DMA or Ultra DMA. If it says PIO, then uh oh...

The other possibility is that if you are using ASPI, then the drivers may have been corrupted.

Once again, Windows XP's 'features' rises up again http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817472

Go to this page: http://winhlp.com/WxDMA.htm and try doing the Alternative Method—Uninstalling the Port first since editing your registry can be risky and may have bad results if you do something wrong. Essentially, you'll have to:

Go back to the Parallel ATA Controller as I described in my previous post. Right click on the Parallel ATA Controller listing (Secondary Parallel ATA Controller if it shows up separately) and click Uninstall. Reboot your computer now. When Windows restarts, it will re-install the driver (this may take a while). Then you can go back to the Parallel ATA Controller Properties and select DMA or Ultra DMA transfer mode.

You either have a dirty or scratched disc, or the disc is bad in some way. OR, for some reason you have a DVD with one of the newer copy protection schemes (dummy sectors/dummy files/bad structure). Make sure you have the last version of DVD Decrypter (v3.5.4.0) which can handle some of these discs. Worst case, you'll need to use RipIt4Me in conjunction with DVD Decrypter and FixVTS.

Since you are getting this error message at the end, I'm suspecting it's something with the disc.
