Gambling around with the CMOS doesn't help you at all. You need to update the BIOS with the correct version. If you have luck, you can update it from a floppy disk during boot. Checkt the manual of your mainboard if it's possible and how to do. If not, you can only pray that your BIOS chip is in a socket and someone with a programming device can flash the correct BIOS into the chip.

You have a major problem if the monitor won't even come on. The bios is what starts everyting so if it is wrong nothing will work. There is probably no way to restart the board without replacing the bios. If you have a socketed bios you can get a new chip from the manufacturers website. If it is not socketed you could send the board in to the manufacturer for repairs or possibly find a computer repair shop that has one of the pci boards that can start a dead computer and have them reflash the bios. If the board is old the best bet is a new motherboard, processor and ram.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
