Time and Space

I apologize for two things: one is the header. I know that it's probably a bit on the vague side. The other is that if this has been asked already. Sorry.

Okay, here's my dilemma (sp?): I'm just starting in the AMV biz (if you wanna call it as such), except my anime comes in the form of video games. :P Anyway, I've used the record and rip method of getting the footage; it's a little time consuming, but it works.

Here's the problem itself: I'm not too fond of the footage being monstrously huge for no reason (with standard compression; seriously, 5GB for 3 minutes?!). I changed the compression to the Xvid... thing, which turned the 5GB into about 70MB. Thing was, Windows Movie Maker, for whatever reason, then couldn't read the file (something about an unsupported format from what I could tell). So, I went back and resaved the file with a different compression. The footage was recognized this time, but the file size is still needlessly massive (about 2GB this time).

So what do I need? Simple: how can I compress the file size down to something more managable and have Windows Movie Maker work with it? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Holla. 8-)

plain and simple of it is that the editable codecs aren't going to be small. Xvid/DivX aren't considered editable, they are more finished products than in productions. I'd recommend a second hard drive or an external one for storage purposes, it works wonders.

Ah. I was kinda afraid of that. Oh well, good thing I went ahead and took the initiative. Thanks man.
