Need suggestions on how to compress

Post by Creative Name » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:37 pm

Hey people!

So after unsuccessfully uploading my AMVs to the org, I realized that it keeps failing due to the max 100MB size. I always wondered why is would quit half way through  So, I guess I am looking for suggestions for how to best compress. I've been just exporting from Premiere uncompressed and converting to mpg, so my files are all 200 or so MB. Recently, I tried exporting/compressing to huffyuv and lagarith and converting to mpeg, but its still over 100MB. Dare I use Xvid?

Thanks in advance,
CN / Phil

Try running those uncompressed files through Zarx264GUI, the resulting mp4 files should be smaller and higher quality

H.264 is the way to go. It has become the defacto standard for web video now. Zarx264GUI is very good, or if you want to go a bit more complicated MeGUI works too. You could use Premiere/Media Encoder to create H.264s, but the quality is terrible, especially at low bitrates.

Another person from Minnesota, yay!

Smaller AND better quality? That seems a little too good to be true.

Turns out that I have zarx264gui on my computer somehow, and once I remembered how to make an avs file,

Smaller, more quality, BETTER THAN ZARXGUI/MEGUI? YES YOU CAN! Grab a fadecomp patched copy of the latest x264 tree from JEEB. Grab his new avs 2.6a build while you're there too, it's sugoi nais for a non-ICL build.

Link since he forgot. :asd:
You should be able to change the x264.exe in zarxgui with the 32bit build of x264 you find there just fine. You'd have to tweak the settings to make use of them though, I believe...

Wow, this stuff is complicated. I hope I don't tweak things to the point where I can't untweak them
