I need some help with sizing

Post by toothpickvic » Fri Feb 18, 2005 2:51 am

I have finally taken the time to get all the Chobits DVD's as well as get my hands on DVD footage for about 90% of my vid. ( I am remastering Full Metal Persacom )

The problem I run into is that the footage is in widescreen for chobits and full screen rips for all of the others. Not to mention it seems different aspect ratro's are constantly changing how my video looks. It is almost as if I cannot win with this Vid no matter how hard I try.

So I look to those of you who have felt my pain and ask for assistance. Ohh help my Ohh masters of the Video footage :D

I have the AVI files still on my HD 5 ggi if uncompressed love that needs to be resized to 1 standard size. I have the almighty Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 in my reach and Virtualdub if it helps.

I await your attempts @ helping my fix a great fun lil Vid.

for those of you who have not seen the first version you can find it here.

Use AVIsynth to clip the 16:9 chobits source to the 4:3 ratio. The sides will be cut off the chobits footage but on the bright side you can control what exactly is cut by varying how much of each side is clipped.

Incidently, this should have gone into the software help forum. I imagine an admin will move it there soon enough.

simple solution would to add letterboxes to the non-widescreen footage...

If Chobits is your only widescreen, I'd recommend cropping, as godix suggested. In addition, I've seen this video, so I know that for your purposes, you won't be needing the very edges during those segments anyhow - only the area immediately surrounding Sumomo.

What I do in situations like this is use 4:3 aspect ratio, then have the widescreen footage be letterboxed. Take a look at the video linked by the image to see what I mean.

if you turn the widescreen into 4:3 you'll lose video quality... if you letterbox or crop the 4:3 footage, you won't... do what you want tho.
