Adobe Premiere 6.0 crashes more than Car Testing Dummies!

Post by kearlywi » Wed Aug 27, 2003 4:36 pm

Wow.

I am aware that DIVX files can frequently cause premiere to crash, so I encoded all of my clips as HUFFYUV compression with no sound (these clips came directly from the DVD via AVISYNTH and Virtual DUB, DVD2AVI was set to "forced film" [24 fps]). I have just one clip with sound (it is also HUFFYUV) and guess what? It causes a crash everytime I load it (its the only Huffyuv file I made that crashes the program, so its not a major issue).

I also noticed that premiere tends to crash without notice when I scroll down my BIN too fast, and also if I take an action too soon after importing files. Are these problems common? I had it crash on me 10 times in 2 minutes before posting here. I just want to make sure I didnt get a bad copy and should thus seek a refund.

Any pointers about how to reduce Adobe premiere 6.0 crashes would be greatly appreciated. :)

Get the updates from Adobe.com. There is a 6.02 patch. I am not sure if it'll really help stability but that's always a good thing.

Latest video/audio drivers usually will help your system in general. Minimizing background tasks is a good thing to do as well.

About your huffYUV video file. What exactly is the audio codec for the sound in that file? MP3 seems to crash Premiere just as much as DivX.

Premiere in general is unstable :/. You'll have to live with it :p

EXACTLY. I just figured that out and was coming here to post that. My audio compression was mp3, and after I changed it to pcm (uncompressed) it no longer caused a crash.

Thanks for the other suggestions, Klinky. Anything will help a lot. :P
