compressors to use

Post by Kitty_Dog » Sun Apr 06, 2003 9:23 am

i need to try and make my videos smaller, i use a compressor when i export it from premiere, but it's usally about 50mb, so i use TMPGEnc which makes it to about 30mb, is there anything that is free that is better than TMPGEnc that would make my videos about 10mb?

Please help me

Dont compress your video out of premiere and then AGAIN. Export it from premiere either Uncompressed, or using Huffyuv. Encode your video using RealMedia9, you can get it looking quite nice at 10mb.

Ack!! Thats what I've been doing, at 100% quality DivX (or XviD, was it XviD?? I think it was...)

Aww poopy. next time round i'll use the huffyuv method.

That said, my vids are still ok..... I hope.....

Helix Producer Basic

Anyway, any compressor can make it 10 mb, it's your job to set the bitrate of the encode. Higher bits per second = larger file (and better quality). You just have to figure out how to change the settings to what you want.

Heres the url for downloading realmedia (aka Helix Producer Basic 9, at least according to some other website)

http://proforma.real.com/rnforms/produc ... index.html
Just fill out the basic info hit download now. This is a free evaluation version and it kinda sux. As far as I can tell you CAN'T modify the quality or size of the file, you just gotta take what it gives ya.

This program converted my 234 mb dvd rip (25 mins, avi) into a nice 11 mb file (same length, avi). Only problem with it was it only shrunk my file, it didnt convert it to a .rm (.rm means "real media" file and can only be played on realOne players as far as I can tell. The final product was terrible quality, maybe 5% of the original quality.

Anyways if u can stand really nasty quality by all means try this. If anyone knows how to use version 9.0.1 better than me plz post tips on how to up the quality (the free version has most configurations disabled).

PLZ DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS MSG!!!
Helix Producer Basic 9.0.1 DOES NOT = REAL MEDIA.

Instead plz try Real Producer 8.0 or 8.5. (both available rdy to download at this url.)

I havent tried using real producer yet but ive read good things. Ill post again after trying it out.

K, now I'm confused.
Helix 9 isn't a real media producer? o_O

o.O

kearly seems very confused.

Helix Producer Basic is the encoder GUI for RealVideo 9 :\
RV9's quality =

I posted the link to that in my last post.

Real Producer 8 is the old realproducer to make rv8 content.

The RealMedia format can be read by a few players including Realone, Media Player Classic, and something like UltraPlayer or something.

25 mins @ 11mb = 60 kbps o.O

Sorry about the confusion. What radical edo said was right, altho i have yet to get decent quality from the evaluation version of helix 9.0. However it is true that it takes a 25 min episode and crams it down to 11 mb! @_@
