23.976 to 29.97

Post by Yogurtron » Fri Sep 03, 2004 8:35 am

Greetings,

I'm curious about some framerate stuff. Now, If I have a 23.976 FPS video like the guides instruct, and I wanted to it into a 29.97 FPS file for use in a con, what would I do about the audio?
I know that this script should do the 3:2 pulldown:

AssumeFrameBased
SeparateFields
SelectEvery(8, 0,1, 2,3,2, 5,4, 7,6,7)
Weave

(As explained by AD a while back), but I was curious how the audio works out. Obviously changing the from 23.976 fps to 29.97 is a bad idea (I did it just to see how much it'd screw with the pitch, heh), but what do I do with it so that it will sync up with the video correctly at the new interlaced 29.97 video?

Thanks

You shouldn't need to touch the audio to get it to match.

Of course, with the majority of conventions, you don't even need to do the conversion to 29.97 yourself -- you can just encode an MPEG-2 at 23.976 with the 3:2 pulldown flag set, so that the hardware will do the pulldown automatically.
