Title:Different Realities
Song: Slicedbeats
Artist: Apartment 26
Editor: Bauzi
Anime: Full Metal Panic (Spoiler!)
Full Metal Panic - Fumoffu

Ressolution: 720x540
Duration: 04:35
Codec: x264 in a mp4
Audio: AAC+

Download:
Just click this videoframe above.
Additional Information (Content): A pdf file

Attention:
If you don´t pay attention on the content and if you don´t want to concentrate to get into, it will look like randomn action with eyecandy. It´s not! Every scene has a reason to be there. It´s very intense so I´m well aware that nearly anybody will get into it after the first playback or without the pdf. I don´t really care because I made this amv for me in general. However: I hope you enjoy it!

Content-Info:
It is based on heavy lyric sync. That means: Every scene has it´s reason to be there to fit the content of the amv. The video is about the twists between the main characters in the anime series Full Metal Panic. In specially: Sousuke, Kaname and Tessa. This is my most intense (+ I put most effort ever for a 4:30 minute in one video!) character profil ever and I don´t know if I overdo it with some aspects of a person. Maybe it´s sometime out of character, but I think I show the twists from a real side.
Concept: The song seamt to me that the singer embodies more voices and persons in one song (of course you know it´s only him, but the content is for me a view of more persons). So this is about different views on a subject or a scene. The innerview (thoughts of a character) and outerview (thoughts of a different person about the character). For example:
"You forgot how coming home all alone would have wrecked you"
Sousuke thinks something about Kaname.

"Another false hope today, Another hope went away"
The otherview about the situation.

However... This ends up beeing really schizophrenic and confusing for the viewer.
All in all... The lyrics fit more the anime than you might think.
The title "Different Realities" was an idea after my communication course in colleage. It says that everybody has his own view of reality and the things beeing. Sousuke has is military view and and and... I think the title discribes the video pretty good. I just hope that people will find joy here, even without knowing the anime.

Get the pdf file (downloadlink is listed above) for complete lyric sync info.

Technical-Info
Really fast scenes and action paired with effects. I took my first steps into grunge style and vectormasks and I played a lot with the advanced use of fractal noise and blending modes of layers in Adobe After Effects 7.0. I also figured out how I can make really "nice" colours for a scene. They look pretty interessting, but only play a small role at the end in fast scenes, so you might not realize them. They might be very important in my next project...
You see the picture above? This is an original frame took from the video. A result when you serious try to use fractal noise (the good way, not the obvious way as pattern and more) and blending modes.

/downloading now

Edit:
Okay, now that I watched it here is my opinion.
I enjoyed your amv. This is definitely my favourite one of yours. I liked the way you messed around with multiply fractal noise layeres and blending modes, although I didn’t liked it in some parts. Besides the fx this was solid editing.

0-21: The beginning had some pretty colours.

43-44: Nice camera movement with the statics.

1.15-1.21: I didn’t liked the colour of the fractal noise here.

2.15-4.41: Some pretty colours. The mattes of Kaname and Souske were also a nice idea.

2.57-3.09: I liked the font with the wiggle expression.

3.11-3.41: I enjoyed the last part the most.

7/10

Hm, that poster didn't really tell me anthing so I though your were working on something new untill I saw the sources. Actually I was quite suprised since the betas you send me were quite weak at the beginning (after the intro that is) but it builds up and it keeps me watching altough the atmosphere isn't that thick because the footage doesn't give me much since most scenes are already very overused.

The editing is pretty decent, and you combined it with some nice lyrical sync and a bit of AE mulitlayering, glow and fractals so it's ok I guess. Just the transitions between the parts are pretty rough so sometimes I got the feeling I was able to see exactly what is AE and what was Premiere. Although one sidenote about the effects, I wouldn't suggest to use that oldmoviefilter and unaltered radials those look a bit cheesy in my opionon. Although I have to say I enjoyed the part from 2:56 - 3:09 altough I would make the textures a bit more visible and the color less obvious and yeah you messed up the lyrics; you should've asked for them instead of makin' things up there ;).

And yeah, the end was pretty nice, although you propably just threw in random scenes with lots of motion and beautieful animation, I don't care about a coherent story in an amv anyway. And next time don't add another 10 secs of black between the video and the outro. And make it less sappy, if you want to edit drama, then do it and don't add outros that looks like a half drama video.

6.5/10

:O

Okay, here we go. That was very good, but I'm just gonna say straight away it could have been so much better. I always get carried away talking about your stuff, because you put so much effort into these, and then stupid flaws keep your vids from having their full impact, which sucks. In this case, I understand your concept, and you're going for very subtle things in the mood changes you have constantly here, but you're so focused on getting every line synched (In often clumsy ways) you don't pay enough attention to the flow of the music itself at times. And by that, I don't mean appropriate sync, but appropriate scene selection.

For all the shortcomings, it's still the most interesting character profile of FMP I've seen, and that's why I love it. Not for the iffy "concept", but for the mood and the flux of emotions you have going on in this thing. Which brings me to the effects : Holy shit. What the fuck are you on? Not only do they really illustrate the aspect just mentioned above, they're just awesome. The way you bust em out is just so cool, and it makes me wish the story was a little more compelling, because then this would be the best. I mean, if you were to make a trailer of this vid, with the major single-scene effects combos, it would look like the best thing ever, ever. You just needed a better supporting cast.

Conclusion : Better than Seen It, but not quite as good as Deus.

@Birthlight88:
Glad, you enjoyed it.

@ZetZu:
Cool... Thanks for the op!

@Kev:
Thx.

@Warheart:

Yeah I have some problems with transitions that go smooth. I can´t think of too much and all the time the same blur or glow fades would be crap.
wouldn't suggest to use that oldmoviefilter and unaltered radials those look a bit cheesy in my opionon.
I think the old movie scratches worked pretty good at 02:15, but yeah the radials aren´t often not sooo good.
and yeah you messed up the lyrics; you should've asked for them instead of makin' things up there
DAMN IT!
And next time don't add another 10 secs of black between the video and the outro. And make it less sappy, if you want to edit drama, then do it and don't add outros that looks like a half drama video.
No. Everybody is free to switch away from the outro, because it´s is just an addition to the mainpart and nothing too important.
Personaly I don´t see it as drama, but as sentimental stuff.
I always get carried away talking about your stuff, because you put so much effort into these, and then stupid flaws keep your vids from having their full impact, which sucks.
Start thinking of me as human. Serisously I can´t make things perfect.
but you're so focused on getting every line synched (In often clumsy ways) you don't pay enough attention to the flow of the music itself at times. And by that, I don't mean appropriate sync, but appropriate scene selection.
Even without lyric sync most of the parts would be maybe in the amv. There isn´t so much in FMP than you might think.
Yeah it bugged me because I didn´t reached the energy of the song.
It´s like: No amv will be able to reach the energy of a song like "Faint" from Linkin Park. It´s really close to the impossible. Same case here. The energy and power is just to great and the song is also hard to edit with. I did my best.
Which brings me to the effects : Holy shit. What the fuck are you on? Not only do they really illustrate the aspect just mentioned above, they're just awesome. The way you bust em out is just so cool, and it makes me wish the story was a little more compelling, because then this would be the best. I mean, if you were to make a trailer of this vid, with the major single-scene effects combos, it would look like the best thing ever, ever.
hehehe. Yeah I was really impressed of myself and what I´m actually able to do in After Effects.
Conclusion : Better than Seen It, but not quite as good as Deus.
Definatly agreed. I got an qc today I might would give myself too:
# 2007-09-05 11:25:09Spiffy effects and the clip selection / story! But the pacing / beat sync should have been better for the fastes and heaviest parts of the song~ 4/5 for the story, effects and the general flow =)
Ah yeah... Thx Gregg!
