Petro Productions: First release in 3 years (I'm back!)

Post by Petro » Wed Apr 04, 2007 4:01 pm

After a 3 year unplanned hiatus I've finally created another video! Red String is the first video I've made without lyrics, so the story is completely of my own design (in that I don't have lyrics saying things like "I've got to tickets to Iron Maiden, Baby...) and is only influenced by the emotional sways in the music. I've tried to go back to my roots (i.e. my Love Hina video: Dedicated) and focus on the unfolding story within the video, intentionally not using "cool scenes" that might not fit the flow of the story.

Title: Red String
Anime: Eureka Seven
Song (Artist): Sprinting Spirits (Sato Naoki)
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=141861

Plot:
The plot behind Red String is thus: A young man (Renton) remembers a time in his past when he saw the name "Eureka" appear on his compac drive. Suddenly, the name appears again. Filled with a sudden sense of urgency and purpose, Renton rushes to find the one who's name is calling to him...

Please let me know what you think of the video. I love constructive criticism! I've been away getting advanced degrees and the like, so now that I've completed my master's program, I'm glad to finally get back to the AMV scene.

Yup, that was me ^_^ I have an officemate who was a fan of the video and has a copy of it on his computer. Until we got to talking, he never knew that I made it, and I never knew I worked with a fan of my work :)

I didn't like the lip flap (some people says it's fine, for me in most cases it spoils a bit of fun) and the flashing in 01:37 (was it in anime, or was it your addition?) but it wasn't enough to ruin this vid. Very neat and fluent synch, great flow and mood made good stuff out of this. Also the story was well made, since I caught (at least a bit of) it, even though I haven't watched the series.
Great that you're back :]

In both cases, the talking is intentional. The first of the two times is when Renton's grandfather is explaining why he's giving him the Amita Drive (all you really need to know is that he's explaining something to do with the purple thing). The second of the two times is when (at least in the video's reality)
Spoiler :
Eureka is asking Renton to stay with her.
I wanted the talking to show that she's asking him something, though you don't know what it is until he responds.

Yes, this was in the anime. This is the flashing from the Amita Drive shown at 1:32.

Thanks Zar! Getting a review from you brings back memories from when we were critiquing each others' first videos. My Love Hina vid, and your Dragon Half video. :D

I clicked on both indirect links and they don't open. I would watch the local, but I don't have an MKV player. Though I did watch your video "Dedicated" and loved it. :) I'm not yet in the position to give opinions, but I left a short comment.

The indirect links didn't work? Odd, they work for me. The streaming version is here (just click on the link to watch the video - it's embedded in the page). If you need a player to play the mkv video, click on the link on my site to CCCP on the left side of the page. Once you install that, you'll pretty much be able to play every format known to man.

pm me if you're still having issues, and I'll try to figure out why.
