Promoting AMVs- how the heck do you do it?!

Post by Arcane Azmadi » Fri Nov 04, 2005 7:21 am

We make pretty good AMVs, if we do say so ourselves, but we're having trouble convincing people to watch them. Our latest piece, Ama Lamia, is probably our best work yet, but so far we've only garnered 20 downloads and 1 op (and that's from an acquaintance). Our other recent work, Shuji & Chise- Eternal Love (Two Hearts mix), took the Manifest Award at Manifest 2005 and is a massively improved remake of our most popular AMV, but has only collected 64 downloads. To put it simply, this bothers us.

So to be plain, how can we promote ourselves more effectively? We're still a relatively unknown group, plus we're Australians so we can't show our work at big American cons, so we have to do it the hard way and aren't having much success. Does anyone have any tips?

I would say that you can post your video when it is released in AMV Annoucments, and if you want more feedback you can always do op exchanges.

Pro pimping is an art which I'm not too keenon explaining and helping people with. Its about alot of little things you do starting from the second the vid starts uploading, till a week later when everyone's forgoten about it, and other than personal interogation you can do little but rely on your vids quality. Oh and I could possibly be throwing you of but, meh.

Make better vids than everyone. Good work sells itself.

I fail to see how your location prevents you from submitting to any con that accepts FTP submissions as many are now doing.

Post on other AMV related forums (not just your video, become a part of that group, make them love you first and then your work), kiss a lot of ass, or become good friends with any other talented/well-known editors and hope they pimp your videos for you. ;)

Indeed, just look at the top 10%. Nothing but top notch quality. Each an individual piece of quality art in it's own special way.

Says you

(why not?)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Be a forum whore... and this is coming from a fellow Australian ;)

There's not an Australian convention online forum which doesn't know of my existance (I guess part of the perk as well of the whole AMV coordinator of a convention myself).

It is true that you get attention from announcing your videos when they are released, but really, that dies down after about 4 days to a week when your video reaches the bottom of the pile.

The final advice I can say is... well... you can always make a token video that is well searched for (crap or not)... let the rest of your videos ride on the popularity of that anime... erm... why do you think I have such a crappy Gundam SEED Destiny video :P
