PC Help

Post by Nemoxs » Mon Nov 24, 2003 1:45 pm

Alright heres the issue...

I'm a cheap skate (there I said it).

When I got adobe premiere 6.0 I got it because my friend goes to college and he needed it for some art/video classes he was taking, so I just borrowed his disc's installed, and gave them back.

Problem is, Now I have a new Pc, and he's dropped out of the art/video class and returned his books.

What I need to know is, is there a fesible (I.E: Inexpensive way) to transfer adobe from my old computer, and install it in my new one?

Along with some other programs (Virtual dub, Microsoft Paint it!, etc).

Is it possible to put my old computers harddrive into this one, take all the info I need off of it, and take it out?

Thanks In Advance,
Jacob.

the only way i can think of to access premiere from your new comp is to connect your old hard drive to your new computer as a secondary hard drive... even then i'm not sure if it will work.

vdub you can just dl off the internet.

I suppose that would only work if you boot into your old windows system. Premiere really needs all kind of stuff it crammed into windows when you installed it. You can't just copy the premiere directory and expect it to work.

You can put your old hard-drive into your new computer if you want to copy regular files (such as the premiere projects or vob-files).
you would have to change the jumpers (annoying plastic things, on the 'cable' side of your hard-drive) to set it to slave (the way to set this is probably on a sticker on your hd. Then you plug it in to your new computer on the same cable as your new harddrive (the flat gray one), and plug in a power cable (with the white plug), and reboot, editing your bios settings so it will search for a new hard-disc.

This is a crap explanation, you should probably google for a better one about installing harddrives.

If you transfer the hard drive, the Windows registry entries will still be missing.

You either need to install the software, or manually recreate the registry entries.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

What if he images the hard drive using a ghosting program or something? Wouldn't that copy the registry entries as well as everything else? For a backup to work, this would usually have to be the case...

Okay heres what I did,

I took apart my old computer (ribbons and power supply too).

I switched the dvdrom from old to new (easy).

I took the old harddrive, wired it as the master, put the new as the slave, causing the new one to ask for all the hardware again, but thats cool

Cause I got to keep adobe ;) (along with everything else).

I formatted the secound drive, took everything off of it complety, and renamed it - Music video Bay - :D.

I got an AGP 256 DDR At video card,

I put in a small amount of ram for now (256) but later I'll put in more.

Fucked up story though,,

Last night I got everything together after 5 gureling hours of trial and error and tried to get the internet working and relized AHH FUCK, it's not working.

Went to bed, got up, still not working..

DAMNIT WHY!?

Then again... I suppose nothing would work... IF YOU DIDNT HAVE THE FUCKING EHTERNET CARD PLUGGED IN  .

Anyway, now I have this kick ass machine,

Thank you guys,
Jacob.
