Pet Shop of Horrors

Post by Lyrs » Thu May 15, 2003 7:35 am

I thought it was great! The artwork was little old but the colors and drawings were well done and it was very artistic, not realistic. The faces were long, but that i guess is part of the style of older anime.

also, the dubbing was great. The voices fit the kind of people. The sounds also seemed natural.

and alst, teh four-stories i that i saw were very well done. Attack ofteh killer bunnies!

I actually heard this was really a shoujo anime despite the horror. I must admit, my sister really liked it and I found the stories interesting. A good number of female members of Section 9, Ohio U's former anime club (does a couple hail mary's) really liked it more than the males.

Could be true.... 8)

I have it. It is truly an under-estimated series.

According to the commentary on the DVD (Yes, I'm one of those people who actually listens to those), the show was split up into little parts to show in between shows/music videos on Japan's equivelent to MTV. (That's why there are so many fades!)

However, the story was great, and I heard someone was going to try and make an AMV to it...

:? I wish I could think of a song to make an AMV to it!! :( -cries-

Well, anyway, it was a good series, and everyone should see it.
Not to mention that the best part is it's only one DVD(and not very expensive) =)

I just couldn't get into this show. I found the show to be rather schlock in its attempt to create "serious" horror stories. The result, was that it was just too funny and I laughed and laughed.
I mean, just look at the episode with the horde of rabbits.

i noticed that too when i first saw it. but it was more or less the message that i picked up on. and yes, the rabbit episode was difficult to get into, but i can say that the shock value at some points were really good.

There is an excellent AMV done to this series. It uses Enya. The AMV won some awards even I believe. It's dark, and yet very beautiful, and the rabbits aren't shown as 'funny' in any way. I should find the link for the video, but I highly recommend it. It's on of my favorites.

Well, you've all been saying abotu how it isn't really 'scary'. But, maybe to the Japanese, it is. America has a different culture then Japan, and, for example, we all think some sarcasm is funny. Like "Friends". That show is hilarious to us. But if that show aired in Spain, they wouldn't think it is funny. They see humor in the more visual way, where you act so outrageously weird that to us it's just sad.

That said, maybe the Japanese are the same way with horror. We find things scary if they're gory or surprizing. Since people deal with the apocolypse and stuff every day in anime, it's possible that that isn't as frightnening a subject as human-eating animals. -shrug-

Just thought I'd bring it up.

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes,
They've got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses.
And what's with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies, bunnies it must be bunnies!
...or maybe midgets.
