Here be my AVCon Iron Editor video. It's nothing glorious and it certainly didn't win (though came close and was the runner up from the pool of 8 other videos). That said, I feel more attached to this video compared to what I did in last year's competition.
Essentially last year I tried to go for one novel idea, something that was a sure fire hit and tried to tickle both the judge's and the crowd's fancy (click here for that video). It was quite ambitious but ultimately more trouble than it was worth. Prior to AVCon this year, I was also planning an even more elaborate video and in my mind it would have also been grand. Just as I was finally tasked with making the video though it dawned on me that all of those previous ideas were things you did when you had more than enough time to complete them because they will always land flat otherwise.
So my tack for this year went with something I was both more familiar with and consequently also liked to create more. This really goes back to the "editing for yourself" mentality. During this convention was the first time I've heard of the song I used (my sister having recommended it to me) and I synergised the freshness and inspirational high of that to connect the video together. This is so far probably my favourite IC video.
Anyway, as I said this video didn't win. The judges swayed in favour of bluetrain's video because my video apparently felt a bit cut off (I edited the song because I didn't think I had enough footage to use it all) and the text was distracting (I thought I had to add text in there because halfway through editing, I realised that that portion was actually being sung in Filipino and I wanted the audience to still understand it).
