Premiere Noob

Hey I've been making AMVs on Movie Maker for years now and recently I've finally gotten around to getting Premiere 6.0 but I loaded it up just to realize that I have no idea how to use the program

(I know stupid right? lol) I was just wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers. The main problem I find is splitting the files into pieces like in Movie Maker is there a simple way to do this on Premiere? Thanks

The method i use for clips is cutting all of mine in virtualdub
Premiere doesn't split clips like WMM
