Wondering about ripping PS2 game videos

Postby friezat2 » Sat Feb 01, 2003 8:35 am

I know its been asked before, but I was just wondering if its possible to rip the videos directly out of the game Kingdom Hearts or if I have to record using my capture card? :?:

i dunno if anyone has a PS2 ripper coming out soon, but to this point, there are no rippers for that console. you might have to run a cable from ur pc to ps2 and capture that way, although i've never tried it (i don't have a ps2).

me and a freind taped a couple sessions of outtakes with the ps2 .. we used just his A.V. in and recorded the session of gameplay ... as of trying to find particular video files ... i aint got a clue .. worse comes to worse .. always can do it the sloppy way like us.

Well if you know it's been asked before then why bother asking again rather than look at the other thread?? :?

I asked this before so that's why I'm so......rude. Sorry but that's the way I am.

Hi,saw the topic thought i could help..I'm not entirely sure where i got this but i've ripped several scenes..from ps2 games with a prog called PSS plex....it rips them into pss files then I use DVD2AVI to make them into a .d2v file...then from their on its pretty much like ripping a dvd...its pretty easy...if i find the website i got it from i'll post, other wise just search for it.

no, it isn't. the second advent probably doesn't have the actual game disc.

there are no visible PSS streams in the Kingdom Hearts disc. So unless you're a good hacker, good luck finding it in that 8GB abomination.

trust me, i know EXACTLY what im talking about.

also you will most likely have to have a DVD drive,i'm not sure but i'm guessing you have to have one.and it does work..i've done it many times for music video's i've made..ohhh andi've also done Onimusha, and Armored core 2 rips with PSS plex.i believe it turns them into m2v file type then you use dvd2avi...and continue like you would rip a dvd.

eheh sorry i think people got the wrong impression.

some discs have their PSS files hidden in a directory or in something that cannot be read by any public OS.

in this case, Kingdom Hearts does not display anything at all. so unless you can hack out the files you're out of luck.

true it can work for some games since the PSS streams are practically out in the open. some games have it in a single file directory (sorta like a zip or rar archive for an analogy) and you must extract the streams from those.

i've only been able to get the PSS streams from a few games. so yes it works, but if you can't find the PSS streams then you can't do anything at all. so i agree, PSS Plex kicks ass, but if you can't give it anything, it's useless.

so hopefully somone can get like a conventional PSS stream extractor just like PSMPlay or PSXMC.

sorry for the confusion people.

I can see PSS files in several of my PS2 games, I'm gonna try converting them now. Can someone tell me what an IPU file is, as there are plenty of those on the disc too (in the "movie" folder, therefore I'm assuming they're videos, any confirmation?).

I believe that IPU stood for Image Processing Unit, so maybe it's a form of processing some movies in real-time, rather than an MPEG-2 stream like PSS files are.
