UTVideo 11 for OSX

Postby Mister Hatt » Sun Sep 11, 2011 2:24 am

Umezawa announced the release yesterday on twitter. So far only decoding is possible, and it is single threaded and pure C++ for now, so very slow. I would expect decoding speed to rapidly pick up as some asm is written, and encoding support in the next few months. Original Japanese links here:

As far as the libav port of UTVideo goes, it's in the works, but I still have no idea how this symbol length magic works so I don't see the encoder for that happening any time soon. AFAIK there isn't a QT Component for lavc either anyway.

Either way, further information at the readme, most relevant is the supported formats block:

Bump that UTVideo 11 is out, now with a full encoder for OSX. Supports the usual RGB/RGBA and can convert to/from 8bit limited range planar formats. ASM works although is only 32bit, still significantly faster. Now supports both MOV and AVI as well, so should play nicer with some NLEs that ignore AVI files.

For linux users I guess it's worth pointing out that it now compiles on *nix as well and can be built into libav/ffmpeg either as libutvideo for both encoding and decoding, or by using kshishkov's native C decoder. This does imply it can be built into FFMS2 on avisynth if you want to do it that way.
