Trying to convert MKV to WMV

Postby orianajones » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:28 am

So I am currently using a program called super. I figured out how to use it with 1 slight issue. The videos turn out tiny. Now I am trying to convert a 1920x1080 video in order to use it in an AMV and this keeps happening. I'm willing to bet that its due to some setting I have input incorrectly (most were automatic and so I didn't touch them not knowing what they were).

Video Scale size; [ ]320:180 [x]320:240
Aspect; [x]4:3 [ ]16:9
Frame/sec; [ ]23.976 [ ]25 [x]29 [ ]30
Bitrate kbps; 720
Option is set at hi quality. Its spelled as "Hi" for some reason.

These are the selections that come up with the Microsoft - Zune (WMV) Out put container.

So does anyone know if my settings are the issue?

Maybe it says "Hi Quality" because it's meant as a salute? Like, "Bye, quality?"
But really. Super is a Very Bad converter, and you should Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides Lovingly Overhauled Largely by Zarxrax to learn how to convert properly.
Most specifically, you should not use wmv as files to import in your editor: the quality will get lowered by a notch, and since it's lossy, editing won't be the most comfortable and accurate either.
We generally suggest doing lossless clips, possibly using utvideo as the codec, by using a combo of avisynth+virtualdub. But again, in the guide I already linked, everything is explained.

Thank you so much.

I heard Sony vegas works best with WMV. Maybe it was just a rumour.

Well, WMV can kinda sorta work, but it's far from the best choice and has its share of issues, most importantly quality.
