Sorry I hadn't realized the page has not been updated yet for the AMV Contest. Please keep in mind that changes to the rules may be posted at the official site. Rules as follows...
Once a fan has a clear vision of how a song and the anime they love are linked, the battle has just begun. Countless hours and endless amounts of caffeine pass as these rare fans set to work screaming at VCR's, syncing editing equipment, hunting down source material, praising DVD's and living in a land of dementia until the final product is born.
To help ensure their creations can look their best and can be enjoyed by all, we have some rules and guidelines. Good Luck!

Information coming soon.
Rules for Music Video Submission:
These rules are subject to change without notice and will be updated throughout the year.
1. Videos can be submitted in the following format:
Digital formats: Our required format of choice is MPEG-2 at 720x480 resolution, at 29.97 fps, at an audio frequency of 48khz. Please do not send any video files with a bitrate of over 9000kbps or anything encoded with AC3 audio! If you send a video in not in the appopriate format, you will be notified to resubmit. Please do not send VCD, SVCD or DVD-video formatted media, as we will not accept it!
Videotape entries: We do not accept videotape entries.
Any bumpers over 1 minute in length will be cut completely. Any videos with watermarks will not be accepted.
2. The categories for this year's contest are as follows:
* DRAMA
* ROMANCE
* ACTION
* UPBEAT
* COMEDY
* NON-COMPETING
All videos will be automatically entered in the fan favorite category except for those marked as non-competing. Please indicate which categories (other than Fan Favorite) you are interested in having your video entered in. Videos that arrive uncategorized will have a category selected by the preview panel. Category winners will be chosen by the Preview Panel during the convention. Fan Favorite voting will be conducted at the convention, using votes submitted before Cosplay. Winners will be announced during the Cosplay and Closing Ceremonies.
3. By request of the following bands we will not accept any AMV's that use music from Evanescence, Seether and Creed.
4. Video length should be about five minutes or less. For instance, submitting a video set to the Beatles' "Hey Jude" is a BAD idea. Besides, Gainax sort of already did this in the Eva movie. ^_-
5. Video entries are limited to two per contestant. If you send a submission with more than two videos, we will only show the first two videos, unless otherwise told. A non-competing video still counts towards your total.
6. Video entries that were entered in the previous year's contest will not be accepted.
7. All videos will be screened beforehand by a panel made up of the contest director and screeners chosen at his/her discretion. This panel will determine which videos will make the contest. Nekocon will attempt to make known the videos that HAVE qualified for the contest, but cannot promise this info will be available before the convention.
8. Be tasteful. We cannot accept videos with nudity or overly explicit lyrics. If we can only show your video after midnight, it's not going to appear in the contest. We reserve the right to refuse your video for any reason, be it nudity, foul language/subject matter, copyright infringement or anything else.
9. Any anime source used which contains more than 0:20 seconds total of dialog from the anime itself cannot be considered for a submission, due to copyright entanglements we'd like to avoid. This includes both original japanese dialogue and english dubbed dialogue.
10. Any anime source used which contains subtitles will not be accepted.
11. Submit your entry with a Jewel Case along with the submission information to the address below. If you choose to send us your submission via FTP, please email
amv@nekocon.com with your submission information. You will then be given a unique username and password as well as any necessary login information to upload you video. These accounts will be disabled within 2 weeks of creation. If you need more time to upload your videos, please email
amv@nekocon.com. It's also considered a good idea to mail in a back up copy as well but is not necessary.

* Your name (this will appear on the voting ballot; please do not submit your studio name and/or a handle/nickname)
* Your address
* Your E-mail address (this is critical if we need to contact you for anything)

(We will try to confirm receipt of your submission via e-mail but due to time constraints we may not be able to do so. Please do not mail you entry with a signature required method as we often pick up our mail after operating hours. It will slow down our ability to pick up your entry.)
We cannot accept any email video submissions! Please send your submissions via the FTP server or burned onto a CD/DVD and mailed to us!
12. If you want your video returned, make arrangements with us before the convention. Email us at
amv@nekocon.org. Any videos not claimed by the end of the convention will become property of Nekocon.
13. All entries must be postmarked by October 1st, 2009. FTP submissions must be uploaded no later than October 5th, 2009. Late entries or at-the-door entries will not be accepted. Nekocon cannot be held responsible for damaged, lost, or misdirected mail, or corrupted FTP file transfers.
14. All entries are voted on by the attendees of NekoCon at the end of each showing and tabulated after the final showing.
