Otakon 2002 AMV Contest Results

Postby TnAdct1 » Sun Jul 28, 2002 4:02 pm

Having just returned from Otakon 2002, here are the winners of the Otakon 2002 AMV Contest:

ROMANTIC/SENTIMENTAL

"Transending Love"
Only an Ocean Away by Sarah Brightman
Anime: Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus, City Hunter

SERIOUS/DRAMATIC

The Perfect Drug by Nine Inch Nails
Anime: FLCL
Astro Glidewell

ACTION

"Path of the Deus"
Chop Suey by System of a Down
Anime: Angelic Layer
Senta Miller

UPBEAT/RHYTHM

"Beboppin'"
Can't Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue
Anime: Cowboy Bebop
DJ Fritz

HUMOROUS/SATIRICAL

"commerical exploitation '02"
Butterfly by smile.dk
Anime: Bubblegum Crisis 2040, Dragon Ball Z, Saber Marionette J
Yonder

The only comment I have to say: I'm surprised that "This Video Sucks" didn't win the Humorous/Satirical contest, although "commerical exploitation '02" is a very funny video itself.

Awww, too bad my video (Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy > Lain) didn't win. Haha, I didn't expect it to anyway. I got one hell of an interesting e-mail already though.

Zerophite, that was your video? It was a freaking sweet video, but it was placed in the wrong category. It was the ABSOLUTE BEST "dramatic: serious" video submitted, but it was stuck into the "action" category...

Honorable mentions?

Postby Fungie½ » Sun Jul 28, 2002 6:07 pm

Does anyone know about the honorable mentions? I was really surprised that:

Misty Caldwell didn't win! Her "Do What You Have To Do" video is so great!
Zerophite didn't win! His "Come To Daddy (Bear Mix)" was too good!
dokidoki didn't win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fungie, isn't it a bit odd that your signature is about four times the height of your last post in this thread? :-D

I just knew Senta was going to win. He really deserved it.
<mumbles> grr...why did Senta's video have to be right after mine? :x :x  :D :D j/k

I'm also surprised Tim didn't win. But yeah, that DDR video was really cool.

About average. Some videos got the requisite half second of clapping and some got serious applause (even non-competing videos). The only real notable event during the overflow screenings was on the second day. When Light of Day started to play, nearly half the room walked out. Beats me why.

Wrong category? I must have done that by mistake -_-;; oh well, I'm glad you guys liked it ^_^ it's up for download on www.otakuproductions.org

Too bad no one has a "Braindance" category at any convention.
"axis discrepancy indicates hexagons beyond control anomaly
mutilation colony reflects no triangular energy
asynchronous matter avoided by a diagram invisibility
subtle methods symmetry uncovered a diagonal telemetry"
