Re: Anime Los Angeles 2012 AMV Contest - NOW WITH FINALISTS!
Thanks to everyone that put together the contest and the AMV panels this year! I learned some stuff and it was awesome to chat with other creators.
One thing I am curious about though, is why both our online handles and our names were put on the videos. I use a handle for privacy, and although it wasn't really an issue for me at this con, it did take me by surprise. Maybe in future years, give us a heads up that real names will be broadcast with the video? Just a suggestion...
Thanks again to all the folks who put this contest together! I'm looking forward to great AMVs at the next con!

winners weren't announced formally (unfortunately), they were instead pulled aside privately and told how they ranked and to choose a prize. I don't know why Mikal hasn't posted the full list yet. all i know for certain is GaGa for Bishies got Best of Show and i think Best Comedy, Son of Man got Creator's Favorite, and Bending Inferno got Best Action.

NOTE: Many apologizes for posting this so late. Since con I have had trouble keeping my eyes awake, with all the work my day-job has entailed. I got almost 2 weeks off before the con for vacation, then I got sick for another week and I couldn't work. Things were pilling up and I needed to get them done.
IF YOU ARE NOT LISTED YOU DID NOT PICK UP YOUR PRIZE AT CON
Our 4 Big Winners!
GaGa for Bishies by Eternal Voice Studios - Crowd Pleaser
Son of Man by RiderG - Creators Choice
Voice of a Kawaii Generation by ZonaAMV - Best Produced
Hurricane by Truffle Pig Studios - Staff Pick
First place finishers:
Pop Culture by DMRA - 1st in Creators Dance
PS3 no Jutsu by Blaku92 - 1st in Audience Action
Nerv's Glee Club by LC Productions - 1st Audience Dance
The Dark Tournament by Sean McPartland - 1st Judges Action
Here We Are by Nobodies Inc. - 1st Audience Drama
Second place finishers:
A Glorious Dawn by Studio Hybrid - 2nd Creators Choice
Manly Tears by Y-Sef - 2nd Audience Comedy
Call My Name by ChosenExiled - 2nd Audience Action
Is it Safe? by LC Productions - 2nd Audience Pro
Azumanga May Cry by L Evaders - 2nd Judges Comedy
I Heard it Through the Samurai by Maguma - 2nd Audience Dance
Third and fourth place finishers: (This is a dilemma we struggle with every year. Videos get into pro by "graduating" out of their category with a high score. The idea being that if they were left in their category, they are so good they would win in a landslide. But if there are 6 really good videos in pro, someone gets first, and that means someone gets last. I think theres an interesting discussion to be had regarding: What is better? First in a lesser category, or last in the greater category.)
Luminescence by 1MoonGoddess7 - 3rd Creators Pro
Awaken the Fantasy by Kh_Queen Productions - 3rd Audience Action
Momentus by Ryvannis - 4th Creators Pro
I also want to apologize if anyone's personal name was used when the contest was displayed, they were not supposed to be. I was very busy during the contest and didn't actually get much of a chance to watch the videos. We use real names internal to the staff because... well here is a list:
1. There are some people who are banned. They could hide behind a group name but it is much harder when their real name is registered at con.
2. Its easier to check who is registered at the convention.
3. Handles often contain characters or numbers or hyphens, which have caused trouble before. Proper names written in English do not contain typically contain these hazards, and are easier to read.
I also use real names on the forum post to make sure I am spelling names right.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY PRIVACY CONCERNS PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO YOUR REAL NAME IN ALL ALAAMV MEDIA/POSTS.
I WILL INCLUDE A CHECKBOX ON NEXT YEAR'S FORM TO THAT EFFECT
Congratulations to everyone who entered. I need to go sleep now.

Re: Anime Los Angeles 2012 AMV Contest - NOW WITH WINNERS!!!
Hi Matt. Thanks for all your hard work.
I think you ought to list the winners as they were voted. There are definitely some category winners missing. Picking up prizes was really confusing and not possible if you weren't attending on Sunday. And honestly, the real prize is seeing that your video was enjoyed and voted on by the audience. It's the votes that should matter, not whether or not our attempts to pick up prizes coincided with actually being able to do so.
Can you please post the excel spreadsheet that you showed to us at the con? That was a very clear explanation of the votes.
Thanks!

Yes, please. Your list is confusing me. And now i'm in a very awkward position asking you to explain why you told me at con Bending Inferno placed first in action for all categories of votes, yet your list is quite contradictory to that statement.badsuki wrote:Can you please post the excel spreadsheet that you showed to us at the con? Congrats to all the winners! Everyone did a great job
I think if a video wins one of the higher categories (Creators choice, for example), it can't win the lower catagories (1st place Audience Drama, for example). I'm pretty sure that's what happened to Bending Inferno.Rider4Z wrote: Yes, please. Your list is confusing me.
