I liked it. I can't remember which I ended up voting for but it was that and 'Ain't No Rest for the Wicked' I was choosing between. I like Tale of Memories AMV's

Also are you going to post it? That's one of the one's i'm waiting on.

^^ This. Maybe I just didn't get the reference material, but it seemed to me that it belonged in a different category. Did Get Smart have an intro like that or something? It was pretty fun, though.

Clearly some people in the AMV community are late to hop on the Shinkai train.

So did anyone even notice my AMV (Defying Gravity)? I know it was kind of overshadowed by the ginormous 10 minute one right before it, so I'm not sure if the applause was more "I liked that, yay!" or "the drama category's finally over, yay!"

I'm in the middle of moving at the moment, but once my main computer gets unpacked and back online I'll upload it to the .org.

I really enjoyed your AMV actually =D I haven't seen a warm fuzzy AMV like that in a while and the editing was spot on. Definitely was on the top of my list.

I've had the song from your AMV stuck in my head for the past two days, lol I remember enjoying most of the overlay-type effects and the general storyline you created for the song. I think the concept worked well =0

I will note that having seen more or less the whole contest at the prescreening during July 4th weekend, I was a bit surprised at a few of the ones that made finals. I'll admit there was only one or two entries that even garnered anything above a "3" from me.

Of note:

1. The "too much buttsechs" one barely registered a 2.75 from me (even though I did round it up to a 3).

2. The 10-minute DN, while having an interesting opening for the most part, and a decent finish at the end, tended to sag in the middle IMO. This one too didn't rank higher than a 3.

I guess for the most part, I'm getting too curmudgeonly for my own good. :-/

Actually, Shinkai is somewhat of an acquired taste. Not quite as dense as a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli work, but almost as much atmosphere--if not more. I'll admit I immediately fell in love with Hoshi no Koe/"Voices of a Distant Star" from the get go, but 5cm/sec does require some investment in viewings even though it only a mere hour in length.

I think my favorite Shinkai is still "Place Promised...", though...
