The first block of judging has already been completed. The second block is next weekend, and I will try to announce finalists roughly the weekend thereafter. Good luck, everyone!

Re: Anime Expo 2012 AMV Contest - (EZ Rules) DEADLINE: MAY 5
Hi, I had a question - I was unaware of this thread until today and following the official rules PDF from the AX website, which doesn't have this part:
640x480 (Square pixel, 4:3 aspect ratio)
720x480 (DV non-square pixel [0.9])
960x720 (Square pixel, 4:3 aspect ratio)
(etc)
The PDF does state "NTSC standard" but only lists the vertical resolutions; I didn't read into that enough I guess, so I ended up submitting a video that was 1072x720, one that was 936x720, and I think one that was 852x480 (all square pixels) >_< . Does this mean my entries will be disqualified? I live in Orange County and am willing to mail, digitally submit, or hand deliver the videos in the exact specified resolutions/aspect ratios to Anaheim, Ventura, LA, or anywhere if that would become necessary at some point (alternatively feel free to crop/add black/adjust aspect).

I broadened the submission guidelines for this year, so don't worry too much about it. Those first two are certainly are some oddball resolutions though, but those in and of themselves will not disqualify you. However, using such odd resolutions generally causes some impact to video quality and that will work against you in the judge's scoring.Cyrix wrote: The PDF does state "NTSC standard" but only lists the vertical resolutions; I didn't read into that enough I guess, so I ended up submitting a video that was 1072x720, one that was 936x720, and I think one that was 852x480 (all square pixels) >_< .
Next year the codec submission guidelines will be tightened again, now that I know what works best and what causes lost sleep.

Ok, thank you, that's a relief
. I had two midterms and a seven page essay the last week of submission so I didn't get some of them rendered until May 5th after not sleeping the previous night, and didn't think to crop/uncrop black on the sides for the first two (which would correctly be 960*720).
