I haven't seen Tokyo Godfather's but when i heard the name, I assumed something along the same lines but when I saw the previews and trailers, I stopped and went, "wait. what?"

Not quite . . . I was just expecting something a lot more stylish and suspenseful, and got cuteness with guns instead.

Although the English dub jobs for both were equally lousy, so I guess some expectations were met . . . <.<;

Ohhh GOD that's so true! And you know what the biggest irony is? A lot of the shoujo-ai manga (without the subtext bullshit) nowadays follows Marimite's framework, and supposedly this is how the magazine Yuri Hime came about.
