The only problem with that is not everyone is an outgoing happy go lucky person. There are relatively shy users around here too who only post to let people check out their AMVs and then just lurk away into the depths of the shadows... (Im one of them.)

There are also users who don't like to watch mainstream AMVs (which most of the Announcement forum consists of), avoid them because they know they won't enjoy them and only looks for the underdog AMVs (which is a rarity) and only replies to those. (Again, Im one of them)
Nya-chan Production wrote:The problem with newbies posting in Announcement forums is they don't get anything from it - possibly "Thank you" from author, possibly "Nobody asked you" from an author who's an ass. Considering one can see so many empty announcement threads you can think like this:

"If I reply to this thread, there is still no guarantee I'll get replies to mine - so why bother"

And even if you do post, if you're alone you'll lose enthusiasm after some while when you see nothing's changed and nobody still replies.

OTOH if they see they can get some replies in Welcome threads (which are usually visited by at least a few people (from this community I am pretty sure me, godix, Kio and few others would visit it regularly to welcome newbies/scare them away) would reply and show the people they can get replies, which will lead to more active replies on boards.
I agree with this.

There is no guarantee if someone posts in someone else's thread, the other poster will do the same and reply back. There are a few people I know who would do that, but not many... and if a newbie does try and be active but still gets no replies in their own thread, they'll just lurk away back to youtube.

There's also no guarantee that if someone posts an introduction thread that anyone will respond. Especially if the whole problem is that the org is supposed to be some uninviting clique and that's the reason why we need introduction forums. Sure, a few people will say "OH, I will, I will!" but it's pretty easy to say it now and a lot harder to dutifully answer each inevitably repetitive thread with more than "ohai". I think the best way is still just actively taking part in threads. If you're a shy lurker who only posts their own videos and nothing else, even then, the repetition of just seeing the name will make you become more recognizable. I'm certainly up for the idea of trying out the forum, I'd love to be wrong about this but I really would be surprised if it made much of a difference.

Also, what the fuck? Having replies to your thread makes you elitist? If I recognize someone's name and check out their vid and respond, that does NOT make them an arrogant bastard. There is a difference between "known" and "elitist".

well, maybe you have to post an amv or have an amv uploaded to your profile to be able to make an introduction thread?

but you do make a good point.

I'm not saying anything like that. I'm having a hard time explaining it.

Let's say, for example, if a newbie were to post in the announcement thread and the same day, let's say, Koop announces a video. Everyone is obviously going to go flocking to Koop's thread and keep posting about it, leaving the other threads in the dust. There's no point for everyone to post the same thing over and over in a well known person's thread and keeping it on the front page for months on end, stealing the publicity of other threads announced on the same day.

I understand what you're saying but you are confusing "known" or "popular" for "elitist". There is a difference.

Well, replies to welcome threads can make new people see they will get replies even if they are not popular.

Honestly, if newbie behaves well in welcome thread he will probably get more replies in announcement forums as well so it's only to his profit.

Can't we just give it a trial run for a week or two and see how well it fares?

Actually, I've got AMV editors on my video game charity's website that are really interested in learning more technical aspects of AMV making, and i directed them here, but they said it was way too intimidating to get critiqued after reading a few crucifications on the annoucements forum.

An intro forum would possibly help ease the transition and let them know that there are people here that are really nice and want to help, but we mean SRYS BUSN when it comes to giving critiques and advice. Plus, this would work outside my little example, naturally. :O

See and that's leading to the point I was trying to make. It's the already established org members who would ultimately be making a difference here, actively watching/reading/replying to introduction threads before recognizing other posts from the new user. Which, if the org is mostly just all an elitist clique, how will that happen? Again, I would really like for the opposite to be true and for members to just dive right in and make everyone feel welcome, but I don't really see it happening, sadly.

Basically it's more probable, because it needs like 30s of your time to write a reply, while announcement forums require you to download the vid, watch it, think about a critique (in some cases) and then write it. I am not saying org is elitist because I don't believe it, but not all org people have the will and time to watch every and each announcement thread video...
But we'd see ;x

Well, I don't really think that the org is one big elitist clique either, I'm just going with the first post's reasoning. I'd be more behind "We should have introduction forums just because" than I am "We should have introduction forums because the org is too clique-y".
