For the record, there are currently no x64 applications of Premiere Pro and After Effects at all. Adobe claims that the CS4 versions are "architected and optimized for 64-bit OSes," but they are still 32-bit applications. The only Adobe app that has a native 64-bit version is Photoshop, though the CS5 versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects will be 64-bit only.Bauzi wrote:There are no x64 applications of Premiere Pro and After Effects for XP.

Thx Lantis for explaning!

With 64-bit only, I wonder if they will figure out a way for 32-bit codecs to work. Not everyone is going to make 64-bit codecs immediately, but I guess this is yet another nudge to force them. Heck, Windows 7 initially was going to be 64-bit only.

Well, the codec issue was just with the preview. In order to export all the codecs were freely available, so my guess is that if they handle the codecs for the preview like they handle the codecs for the export, it should be fine.NeoQuixotic wrote:With 64-bit only, I wonder if they will figure out a way for 32-bit codecs to work. If think that's because it was also designed for netbooks. I doubt that all netbooks run with dual cores... or am I wrong???NeoQuixotic wrote:With 64-bit only, I wonder if they will figure out a way for 32-bit codecs to work. I wonder how good/bad the google OS will be, but if I remeber correctly it was purely designed for laptops and netbooks or something like that.

Re: Is Win7 better (for us amv-editors) than Win XP?
one of the best things I'd ever done with my pc is make a custom xp sp2(b, it's an unofficial package that includes all of sp3 but the stupid stuff) bootdisk w/ various silent installers and taking out unneeded services and files. Due to this
http://forums.techguy.org/reviews/36912 ... grams.html
it took me 3 freaking days of installing and reinstalling xp over and over till I got it right! (about my only problem was having my mobo and wifi drivers autoinstalled... I then upgraded 2 weeks afterwards :/) But let me tell you, after a year and a half my windows folder is a little over 2 gigs and booting windows is close to painless!! I'd say bootup went down by about 150% (90 seconds out of 120, or 1.5 minutes LESS) And I'm on an IDE HDD.
I don't want to upgrade to Win7 (mostly cuz it's about time I went 64-bit, I got 6gigs or RAM :/) until they make a program to haxxor with it like that
Do they really make a Premiere version that takes advantage of over 4 gigs of RAM?? Or is it just the 32-bit version in a 64-bit environment.

nevermind should have turned the page. Next year it is xD (actually can't I just make a ramdisk for the scratch and stuff thus utilizing the extra ram?? :/)LantisEscudo wrote:For the record, there are currently no x64 applications of Premiere Pro and After Effects at all. Re: Is Win7 better (for us amv-editors) than Win XP?
Honestly, I'm salivating over the table that lists Win7 Pro and Ultimate as supporting 192 GBs of RAM. All I wanna know is, what could a consumer possibly run that could actually use that much - or heck, even a fourth - of that much RAM. And I'd like to see the case and mobo they'd have to have to put all that in.
(although it does make that reference to 100 GBs in "All About The Pentiums" start to look dated...finally)

Re: Is Win7 better (for us amv-editors) than Win XP?
Windows 7 surprises me:
-First... Yes it really boots and shuts down fast
-It worked great even without properly install my graphic card.
I got full 1680x1050 resolution. The style seamed to be a bit odd, but it was quite... nice? If Media Center wouldn't have told me that it needs more than 64MB graphic card RAM I wouldn't have noticed the lack in drive installation. Just watching videos was strange, because they didn't got resized smoothly.
-I never saw Premiere Pro and After Effects start up that fast. That was great.
-It seams like this OS really does know on how to use my RAM. When I close a program and reopen it, it starts up damn fast.
-I had no problems in editing so far:
Lagarith YV12 in Premiere Pro CS4, exporting in lossless and lagarith x64 YV12, actual editing, avisynth, compressing with zarxGUI
Just... the eyecandy is way too much for my taste. I look forward to reduce it =| Beside that... Hell I'm really pleased with Win7. Great!
