This is my most recently completed video, only problems exporting from Premiere are keeping me from premiering it on the Net. This one came about in a discussion of Music vs Anime Music, and for one reason or another, I decided to go ahead and make this. It took me about a week to finish the initial version, and another month and a half to finish the final version, which is identical to the initial version except for the 4-7 minute area(it's an 8 minute video), most of the last half of which remains, although interspaced along the way.
It's been said that editing live action is far more difficult than editing Animation, and now, despite how well this turned out, I have to agree. Again, I tried to tell a story using somebody else's footage, this time bending and twisting the story to seem more like a dream than the story of the movie. It starts out with an opening scene that runs unbroken and unedited(by me atleast) for the first forty five seconds while the song warms up, and yet it still works, down to the volume indicator LEDs on the screen matching the remixed opening phrase from this Sharon Apple song. The video starts out opposite the Movie with Neo in complete control, and steadily losing control and losing his grip on reality as he plunges further and further into his dream.
In making the video, I tried to avoid repeating myself, and 'quoting' other people, which proved to be difficult after about four minutes in. I decided to throw a little interesting flavor in, each of the 'Resets'(the music and beats right before each verse begins) started out being nearly identical(there are four during the video, I believe), each having a beat that corresponded to some hit or kick or other action on-screen. I decided to drop that in favor of having a different 'effect' or different kind of action for each 'reset'.
The first is the best, I think, where the cymbal crashes land perfectly in time with the fists thrown in the first fight.
The second was more difficult to put together. I didn't want to use one-on-one like I did for the first reset, but my initial two-on-one idea just seemed to be a pale imitation of the first reset, and wasn't very noticible anyway. What I ended up doing was piecing together other scenes from that same fight sequence, but this time using a different opponent AND a different action for each beat. The Result is a flurry of images that match the beats, but may go too fast for anybody to actually catch it.
The Third involved another style entirely, but I think works well, this time not relying on edits or on on-screen actions to match the beat, but instead uses a 'bullet time' sequence, where everything slows down for the duration of the 'reset', then speeds back up as the song picks up again.
The Fourth was the most difficult to do, but also was more obvious of a 'reset' than the second or third ones. I used a similar strobe kind of effect as I did in the second, except instead of using a different scene(for a total of five) for each beat like I did on the second, I used two parts of the same scene flashing back and forth one over the other, to match each of the five(or was it six?) beats on this reset.
The rest of the video, while not 'filler' is entertaining, but not quite as innovative as these four sequences. For the most part, instead of matching beats(which seems to have occured naturally), I tried to match Lyrics to on screen events. Over all, this video worked out well, I am interested in C&C on it. It(along with the rest of my Videos) is available on the Waldosmagic ftp site.
