"Centennial" was my very first AMV.
Both the music and Millennium Actress had always given me a feeling of sort of bittersweet nostalgia. A reminder that the person at 90 is still, in many ways, the person of 15. Smarter, maybe. Way more tired, for sure. But the same heart. At some point they just became connected in my mind, and I wanted to do a video that tried to encapsulate that.
I'm not going to be pretentious and go over how I tried to do that. Whether I succeeded or failed, you'll have to judge.
I had some beginner's luck, both good and bad.
The bad news, first: I premiered this at Anime North 2005. For the exhibition, they compile all of the videos together onto a single DVD. When they did that transfer, something very nasty happened, and the video and audio got completely out of sync. So, the first public showing was an utter disaster. My apologies to anyone who saw that, and no, I don't know yet what went wrong.
The good news is that the judging was done against the VCD I had sent them, which worked fine. As, of course, does the XVID version here. Based on that, the judges gave it their Newcomer's award, embarassing me and officially kicking me out of the shallow end.
