This video was such a freakin\\\' pain. Not putting it together; that was actually comparatively easy. No, just getting to where I could actually *start* the bloody thing was where the problem occured.
I don\\\'t actually have a capture card, so I have to make arrangements to have the use of one. I made such arrangements and got the use of one for a time in Nov. Unwittingly I was using WinXP, which didn\\\'t recognize the card. So I made arrangements to go to a friends place, wire it up and capture all of my stuff there. I was able to do so with no problems. Then I got back to my place and realized that since XP didn\\\'t like my card, it also didn\\\'t like the video codec all of my footage was captured in. Before I could make arrangements to go and convert those files, my transfer drive died horribly, taking ~13gigs worth of capture with it.
Jumping forward to January, I finally got a harddrive partitioned to run Win 98 and 2K. I took my entire box over to my friends, since my partner was bringing the capture card. After installing everything, we began capturing. The capture wasn\\\'t going well, and we discovered the reason for it. My shiny, brand new harddrive had bad sectors. Lots of them -more would appear each time I\\\'d restart (it might have been kind of neat, had it not been *my* harddrive). Needless to say, part of the reason I was dropping frames was because I was saving to a bad sector(s). Fortunately I was able to hang on to the capture card this time; I got another harddrive, which worked, and was finally able to recapture everything and work on the video.
Time actually working on video: ~40hr.
Time spent trying to reach the point where I could work on the video: ~30hr.
It was actually a fun video to do. It departs from my original idea somewhat, but considering that my original idea occurred back in October, I think it came out pretty well. I cut the fourth part of the song out, because the song was running a bit longer than I care for a video to run and because it was the only part I didn\\\'t immediately have an idea for when I was kicking the idea around. Fortunately the song is somewhat disjointed, so unless you\\\'ve heard the song, you wouldn\\\'t be able to tell where.
I chose to cut the second part for the competition I\\\'m entering it in. I\\\'ll make it available whenever we get a server and downloading becomes a possibility.
