Comments:
This video began from a simple thought - Yui is really the hero of Fushigi Yugi. She's the one who grows, learns and changes, and she does it all despite some really distressing experiences. On top of that, she - more than Miaka - has the maturity to put aside her own troubles when someone else is hurting. This seemed to connect very strongly to the themes of the song (lyrics below).
However, other characters started jumping out at me too - other female characters who for one reason or another don't quite get a fair shake in their respective series or by AMVs made from those series. These are the real heroines of anime - the ones who have come through hardship and yet still strive to make things better for themselves and others.
The specific twelve characters I settled on include some more obscure as well as some well known, and I think they all fit the above description. I was fairly wary of including Asuka and Faye, as they didn't really meet the requirement of "rarely has videos made about her." Nevertheless, I tried to tell even their stories in a way that isn't often seen. Asuka, for instance, is generally used for either angst, bitchiness or fan-service, but so few videos really address the personal strength she must have to have come as far as she has. Everybody focuses on the breakdown, not on how long she had lasted without breaking.
Anyway, enough description. Hopefully the video does speak somewhat for itself. The lyrics are as follows:
================================================
"Heroine"
Sinéad O'Connor and The Edge
Afraid, but you will not run
Alone, thy will be done
Confessed, but you still feel the shame
Bring me into your arms again
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
Touch these eyes with a broken smile
Touch my mouth with your furrowed brow
With my heart feel my shame
Lead me into rest again
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
The night is long, But the day will come
With promises were the chosen one
Salt the sea
Sweet taste the rain
Fall tonight into my arms again
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
Heroine
The night is long, But the day will come
With promises were the chosen one
Salt the sea
Sweet taste the rain
Fall dead of night into the light of day
