    **************

My original concept for this video was going to be an artsy composition of 3D floating windows and lines. In the end I decided to go with a more traditional presentation, focusing on a story and dressing it up with some fancy transitions.

The story centers on the friendship between Tima and Ken. This is in the midst of a popular revolution against the powers that be. The ending of this story is slightly different than the movie has it.

All of the robot aspects of the "Metropolis" movie were ignored. However, anyone who has seen the movie will notice a few scenes with robots. It's also clear that the girl is special in some way. There is a scene where a tear falls from her eye, and I thought about changing the tear's color from black to clear to be more human-like. Besides the fact that this was difficult to do, I decided to leave it in the original color as a hint for her actions that follow soon after.

All of the transitions, including the random blocks sequence, were made with a software plugin package called SpiceMASTER 2 that is created and sold by Pixelan. SpiceMASTER not only provides a large set of transition types, it also gives the editor the means to control the shape and speed of each transition. Visually, the most notable aspect is the softness (Pixelan calls them "organic") of the transition edges. I also used the acceleration controls - these are essentially just Bezier curves - to manage the pace of each transition so that each would fit the music better than a simple linear change or S-curve would do.

Of course, simple cuts and basic crossfades are all over this video, too. Each is chosen to (hopefully) enhance the connection between the video and the music.

The song is one of my favorite vocal trance pieces. The De Donatis mix is an odd combination of an upbeat, almost cheerful, tempo alongside lyrics that threaten and warn. With this video I've attempted to emphasize this mix of emotions by using paced edits and pretty effects to exhibit a dark and tragic story.
