  • Comments: This is my second video to make, and I'm mostly happy with it. When the idea for it occurred to me, I was positively certain the video had been done -I mean, it screams Eva, doesn't it?

Now, I realize Eva has been done, done before, and done to death. But, try as I might, I couldn't think of any other series that would be more appropiate for it. So I went with it.

The lip synch was the most irritating part of the video to do. I sat down with it and spent about three hours timing out the 'not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin' lines. I played with creative cutting and speed altering and got the video so the character's lips were moving when they were supposed to be.

Unfortunately, I'm hard of hearing and I can read lips to a certain extent.

The characters were moving their lips at the right time, but they weren't moving their lips the right way for what they were saying. So I scrapped all of my previous work, took about 3 frames of each lip movement and copied and pasted until it was finished. That being done, it wasn't much trouble to place the scenes for the rest of the video. The subtitling was the most irritating thing after the synching. All subtitles were done in Flash; the katakana had to be done by hand -it was tedious (since this is the part my partner helped me with, it wasn't that bad).

There are a few weak points in the video that I'm going to go back and change. One of the lip-synch is off at the beginning. The joint needs to be added halfway through that line, rather than being present throughout the scene. One of the strobe/blinky effects is missing between the 3rd and 4th verse. One of the katakana lines needs to be drawn out a bit more. And I suppose I should properly synch the last line of the song.

I know the song runs a tad long, but I hope you get a chuckle out of it.

Btw, the other footage is Basara from Macross 7. He goes in to battle and sings. Thats it. It's what he does.

    Technical stuff:
Done on a home built 333MHz Processor with 256Mb RAM, using Adobe Premiere 6. Capturing was done with a Pinnacle Systems DC30 capture card. Subtitling was done in Flash. Altogether, it took me about 25 hours to complete the video.

It won Best Comedy Video at MTAC!
