I'd stopped making AMVs for around a year when I got back onto my Song Vegas Studios and looked through the Kingdom Hearts clips I had. It really isn't clear to me how it happened, but I just felt compelled to make another AMV. Just one more, I told myself - you only have to do one more video and then you can feel content. So I went about spending an entire Saturday coming up with a plot and putting clips together. It was so much like the old times that it was scary.

Not too long into the editing process, I decided that I would center the video around Roxas, and how he feels day in and day out: lethargic and bordering on depressed. Slowly, the concept evolved until it encompassed his relationship with Axel and how, no matter what the turbulence of life throws at him, being able to spend one day with Axel makes everything worth it. Even when Roxas resigns himself to "death" he can look at Axel and say that the last day they got to have with each other was the greatest day of his entire life.

I purposefully left the ending a little ambiguous - I wanted people to look at that final teardrop and contemplate whether it was a tear of sorrow or a tear of joy. Was it Axel crying for Roxas; was it Roxas crying for himself; perhaps it's Roxas finally being set free; maybe still it's Axel being happy that he had a true friend. Honestly, I can say that I have no idea. With intent, I didn't let myself figure the ending out so that each individual can have his/her own interpretation. Because that's what art is about: how someone puts it into perspective.

The timing's a tad bit off, there are black spots, and there's that one frame in the beginning that has subtitles which I forgot about. But I think the video achieved what I wanted it to.

Not to mention that it completely changed the direction I was headed. I was turning my focus away from anime, but when I sat down and did this, it brought everything back to me: the thrills, the chills, the tears, and the smiles. In a way, I think I was reborn - after "Today", I wanted nothing more than to continue making videos to share with everyone possible. I was back into anime and manga, I was back into video editing, and I was putting more effort into it than I had ever done before. While it may not be my crown jewel, "Today is the Greatest Day" is something I'll cherish forever.
