  • Comments: While watching Dennou Coil I couldn't help but constantly think about how similar it was to the Matrix. That is, if Neo were an elementary-school aged girl with an an unlucky virtual-dog, whose primary struggle was making friends and understanding his dreams. So I guess not that similar.

But the idea persisted and somewhere around episode 22 I joked that "I should totally make a Matrix AMV to this". A few months later I was reminded of the idea and looked up the original trailer, which I decided was just perfect.

Neo and Morpheus were easy to cast and I was consistently amused to see their voices come from the mouths of little girls. I struggled more with Trinity but finally decided on Tamako mostly because she wore a tight, leather jumpsuit and rode around on a motorcycle. I almost used Haraken simply to stick with the gender-flopping I'd done for the rest of the characters. As primary antagonist, I could have used Michiko-san for Mr. Smith, but Satchi was exponentially more entertaining.

Overall, I had a really good time turning the tone and pacing of Dennou on its head and I am very pleased with the final result. This also is the fastest I've ever made an AMV in, taking less than 12 hours over the course of only one week. I hope that this AMV amuses people who have seen Dennou Coil and encourages those who haven't to give it a try.
