After watching the first season of Fullmetal Alchemist, I couldn't help but find it a bit scarier than most anime of its kind, which gave me the idea to do a horror AMV. The video highlights many (if not all) of the disturbing, violent, or just plain creepy moments in Edward's journey, all the way up to the confrontation with the homonculi in Lab 5.

The editing was much more efficient than last time. Rather than exporting all of the footage on the disc as one huge DV-AVI, I encoded only the clips that I needed, compressing them with Lagarith to avoid losing video quality prior to postproduction.

Speaking of which, I think it's safe to say that the most infuriating moments in making this AMV occurred AFTER I cut everything together. Even though I didn't use any special effects besides crossfades and the title overlays at the beginning, I seemed to have overwhelmed Windows Movie Maker, forcing me to divide the timeline into multiple sections. What really drove me up the wall about the whole thing (besides the points where I thought I would have to start all over) was that, since WMM can't export projects using a lossless codec, each segment had to be compressed with DV, which made me lose some of the precious quality I was trying so hard to preserve!

Once I had my rough cut in one piece and ready for AviSynth, I was able to do some cleaning-up, but I couldn't get it perfect. I gave it my best shot, though.

    Full list of programs used:

    iTunes
    SUPER
    DVDFab 5
    DGIndex
    AviSynth
    VirtualDubMod
Windows Movie Maker (Vista SP1 edition)
    Zarx264gui

My sincere thanks go out to ErMaC and AbsoluteDestiny for their great A/V guide, which made all of this possible. When I turn 21, the drinks are on me.
