  • Comments: While listening to Sadame from the X TV series one day, I picked out that little flute bit before the main melody and though, "Wow, that reminds me of traditional Japanese music." One thought led to another, and I started thinking about Rurouni Kenshin while listening. That's when I decided I had to make this.

Actually, there's not a lot to say about this one. Between the text and the dialog, it should be pretty elf explanatory. The subject material follows Kenshin through the meeting of his three closest comrades, Kaoru, Sanosuke, and Yahiko. The theme is the is really about how the things we have done in the past are what make us who we are today, and that sometimes we have to remember that in order to grow as a person. I originally wanted to use a lot more from that later portions of the first story arc, but I felt that if I did, the video would become a series of random scenes with less direction. Also, I used the original Japanese dialogue, and the subtitles I created are based on the official subtitles, but I have retranslated some scenes so that someone watching this video gets a bettter idea of why I chose a particular scene.

Some fun numbers. This video took the better part of 4 months to finish. With my high res low drop rate capture methods (usually with sound) this project required 10.7 GB's of footage. I had to create 85 seperated pieces of generated text.

My next project is uncertain, as I'm DEFINITELY going to take a break after this. I had some thoughts about using the song Reincarnation by Kenji Kawai from Ghost in the Shell to do a Mononoke Hime video.
