    - DVD Decrypter - dvd rip
    - DGIndex
    - VirtualDub - deinterlace, sharpen
    - Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 - scene splitting/splicing, digital effects, timing/sync
    - VirtualDub - deinterlace, resize, compress video w/Xvid, compress audio w/Lame MP3

    Recommended viewing specs:
    - Windows XP, DivX codec (or Xvid), with Real, Windows, or any DivX Media Players.
    - Stereo speakers, SoundBlaster or any up-to-date software (my computer has SoundMAX).

I decided to remake this video when I received a very good, constructive opinion for the original version after I first uploaded it. I chose "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park because it was the only song (that I have) that seemed to express what I wanted to convey with this amv. And when I first chose it I also wanted to see what I could do compared to other amvs that I have seen using this very same song.

When I first tried making the original video, I didn't think it would work out. But then I finally got past the start of the song, only to get stuck again. It took me a while longer to finish the original video but I was, at the time I made it, happy with the final outcome. Unfortunately, I slowly began to see how it didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. Especially after receiving an Op that clearly pointed out what I agreed needed to be fixed.

The song is divided into parts: Intro, Maiku, Karen, Miina, Maiku/Miina, and Close. The Intro is just a really cool way for me to open the story of this vid, as well as lay down how the video will play out (its mostly comprised of the actual opening for the anime). Obviously the parts named after the characters are parts of the video that I express each their stories from the anime. Maiku meets Miina then Karen, and he eventually becomes protective of them. For Karen I used the episode when she finds out she's Maiku's sister and once again has a family after losing her adoptive father early on in the show. Miina's story more or less deals with her past and background; what made her go looking for her real family. The girl she's running with is her best friend, and who she used to live with before moving into Maiku's place - big deal there, cause I use this scene to show how she finally "heals" and "let go of the pain". Then there's the part where Maiku and Miina kiss. My favorite scene. ^_^ You could say their part together in this vid is really the conclusion to both Miina and Maiku's parts - how they both "feel...close to something real". Then the Close finishes the video with all three of them together, having found one another, made a home of their own, and started their own family - finally putting their pasts behind them and looking to the future - together!

Remaking this video allowed me to perfect the timing, especially when I chose a beat of the song to sync to (yes, I did sync the song to a beat - except Miina's part, which was partial) which I didn't really do in the original. The sync lasts during the first and second verses, and is partial during the first, second, and final choruses. I achieved better quality video footage by using APE3 and processing the footage before actual production. Sound quality has also improved in this version, since there's no loss with the method of audio compression I use during the Xvid compression with the second VirtualDub run-through.

The only digital effect you'll see in this amv is how I isolated only one color in certain scenes, which left them grayed-out except for the eyes. Yes, their Blue eyes. There are four scenes (two of Maiku); and only these particular ones because they were the ones where the concept of their identical eye colors could easily be expressed (APE3 allows isolation of a certain color by a degree of similarity, if i had increased the similarity too much violet and/or green-ish colors would show through).
