  • Comments: As with my first two AMVs, I don't have any tools other than what comes with the Mac so again I only used iMovie HD (part of iLife 06) and QuickTime 7. However, this time, because I included some scanned images, I also used the freeware IrfanView.

    Rurouni Kenshin has so many aspects to it so that the relationship between Kenshin and Kaoru is, in many ways, secondary. Yet Kaoru is definitely a source of strength for Kenshin.

    Although I wanted to do an AMV for them, I didn't think I ever would due to the lack of footage (I only consider the first 2 TV seasons part of the real story and they are almost never together in the Kyoto Arc).

    But I changed my mind when I heard the song "My Dear" by L'Arc~en~Ciel which made me think of their relationship from Kenshin's point of view .. which lacks even more footage!

    So to say the least, this project was a challenge but I'm happy with the results. To supplement the video, I used images from Watsuki-sensei's manga.

    For those of you that expect to see a lot of action like the other Kenshin AMVs, this is not for you. It is slow and deliberate to match the pace and words with this beautiful ballad.

    Regarding the song, it is mostly in Japanese. This is the "subtitled" version which includes my interpretation of the song...not a literal translation. Because I had to make a second pass to include the subtitles, the resolution is not as good as the original version.

    Also, I must apologize for the large size. I gave up some video quality but it is still quite large.

    This video is best viewed with QuickTime. However, any viewer that supports the avc1 video codec and twos audio codec will work...although the video appears darker than if you used QuickTime.
