  • Comments: "Cloud of Sadness (Version Two)" is almost exactly the same AMV I released back on October 24, 2006. What's the difference? Well for one, the video quality is much cleaner and sharper than the original; secondly, the timing has been improved; thirdly, I added scenes I either had to cut up or was not able to use, as well as some background scenes; and finally, I created this version using Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 (my first AMV made without the use of WMM)!

    Process for this remake:

    1. DVD Decrypter - rip .vob files

    2. DGIndex - create .d2v files using ripped .vob files

    3. VirtualDub - edit AVISynth scripts to deinterlace video and apply Smart Smoother

    4. APE3 - import and edit video, proceeded to split, cut, paste, slow down/speed up clips to the song

    5. VirtualDub - import APE3's .avi file; added sharpening, deinterlace, and resizing filters; compressed new .avi file using Xvid codec
(had to ask for help for step five, "Thank You to GloryQuestor and Willen!")

The entry for my original version of "Cloud of Sadness" had been deleted by mistake. The video itself was suppose to be removed, not the entry, because of a copyright issue concerning my first AMV intro clip. The following was taken from the original AMV entry for "Cloud of Sadness":

"...I wanted to do an FF7:AC vid earlier this year but I decided to wait till I had a copy of the movie and finish a few more AMVs before I began working on it. Originally I wanted to do this video to Linkin Park's "Pts.Of.Athrty", from Reanimation. Fortunately I couldn't get that one off the ground. It was when I went to visit my grandmother for my birthday that I found an even better song. I had received a CD from BMG Music Service just prior to my birthday on the 22nd of October. It was Korn's "See You On The Other Side" album and when I got to the fourth track I realized I had found an excellent song to make a Cloud Strife tribute to. All that weekend I listened to that song, thinking about what scenes I could use from FF7: Advent Children to put to it. I knew I would want a lot of fight scenes, but I also needed scenes to help convey the story I wanted to tell. ..."

The story I wanted to tell comes out more with this remake. I wanted to convey Cloud's feelings and what he's going through during the movie. How he feels responsible for Aerith's death, and that he does not belong in the world after METEOR. How new enemies push him in the direction to fight a new conflict, and into a final confrontation with Sephiroth - where he finally puts his past behind him.
