Even though my AMVs tend to be much more popular among my vids, I will always be open for making game music videos, I don’t see why they’re so bad. And what better than making a vid to the gorgeous FMV footage of FFX?

This video was again was made towards the end of making one of my Akira videos which I had spend about 3 months on, so I wanted a quick change of pace and style. Also I had always wanted to make a video to one of my personal favorite bands, Deacon Blue (from Scotland, wondering if there are any Deacon Blue fans around here?) and this seemed to be an excellent vehicle for it.

This is a drama video, using a sentimentally beautiful, tragic story duet song, somewhat dreamy and reflective (as if you were recalling events in your life like it's a dream), that uncannily fits FFX’s story from beginning to end and it’s characters so well (ie. Weatherman). This is also the very first use of a Deacon Blue song.

For this video it's really hard to say if it contains major spoilers or not, I sorta made it ambiguous enough to leave the conclusion to your own interpretation. Let's just say that things may not happen exactly like what the vid seems to indicate, yet the video is true in some way. Either way I'm not telling how exactly, so nothing is spoilt. (Have I confused you?) ^_^

However if you haven’t played FFX, you still CAN very much enjoy the video by the story that this video tells by itself.

I like to call viewers to pay attention to the lyrics/music/footage/story and not to disregard this video simply because this is a game music video. There are hints of romance, betrayal, tragic happenings, regret and lost dreams. There are quite a few subtle elements for the attentive viewers. I especially love the video as it draws towards its end. I once read from some creator here who said that Final Fantasy’s FMV footage is too limiting to make any video worthy of any substance and drama. I certainly hope that this video proves otherwise. It’s quite amazing what one can do with the footage available.

The video was originally edited ‘normally’ with almost no effects and when I was about to consider it finished, then 2 things struck me. First was that while I felt that the video was already well edited with fitting dramatic footage, it somehow lacked a bit of ‘reviewability’ factor. Second was that I had always wanted to make a video with more visible effects, so this seemed like a cool challenge – to put effects into a slow song, and overall make the video a lot more interesting, mesmerizing and textured. So I spent about another week on it to add all these items, WHILE MINIMALLY CHANGING the underlying basic editing, which I felt was already strong.

I also had great fun putting in all the visible and non-visible/subtle effects (can you spot them? You may need to be familiar with the footage to spot them) of the video. Well I hope that you enjoy the video, FFX/non FFX fans and SP fans alike.

    Enjoy!

    Lyrics follow:

    Indigo Sky

We went as we knew how
As far as the wind and the sky would allow
    Waking from sleep
Alive to the noise we came….

After the turn of the year
With only the sky as a silver seer
    Of anything restively turning
    And slowly beginning

    Now even the weatherman's smiling
He never could see it this good
    Why are we so afraid
    Under the Indigo Sky?
    We'll sing
    We'll drink
    and we'll cry

    After the falling apart
After the noise and the guilt and the hurt
    We woke from sleep
And saw that it wasn't a dream

Was it a trick of the light?
That there in the spirit, damned demon night
    We lit a fire
And slowly crowded all around it

    Now even the weatherman's smiling
He never could see it this good
    Why are we so afraid?
    Under the indigo sky
    We lay down
    and we died

    Under the indigo sky
    We lay down
    and we died
