  Note: Keep in mind when you watch this video that only the first DVD (ep 1-6) had been released when I made it.
  
  I've always loved the Kare Kano TV series. It's dramatic without being overly complicated, romantic without being overly sentimental, and the comedic elements are outrageously funny without seeming inappropriate. Mainly, though, I just love the story - two people trying to overcome their personal insecurities and discover their true identities.
  
  Many high-quality AMVs have been made using this song, but I felt that the lyrics and overall theme fit extremely well with Kare Kano. Yukino and Souichirou go to nearly damaging lengths to ensure that the world doesn't see their true personalities. And even though their individual rationale for this behavior is very different, the underlying fears of rejection and worthlessness are identical. As an adopted child myself, I can definitely understand some of the issues that Souichirou deals with. In finding someone else who can relate to their struggles, the two slowly gain the courage to discard their defensive masks and show each other and the rest of the world who they are.
  
  This was my fifth AMV, and was technically much easier for me than my previous ones because I actually had relatively high quality, unsubbed footage to work with. So it was basically a matter of finding the scenes I liked and getting the timing right. This might actually have been a disadvantage, because I think I subconsciously put less effort into it than I do when I'm forced to work around hard-subtitled fansub footage. Sometimes it's also a blessing in disguise to work with hard subs because it naturally eliminates options - so you only have to try five scenes before you find one that works instead of five-hundred!
  
  When I first released this video I thought it was fabulous. I still like it a lot, but it's never been one of my personal favorites, mostly because I never felt that the execution completely did the concept justice. But I'll let you be the ultimate judge!
