I'm back!

Good God... 55 hits? Probably mostly me. Hrm, well, my writing antics have been going on offscreen/off ORG for nigh unto two years now, so I figured updating my profile and the journal might be a good idea.
1. After attending Anime Boston 2005 I was re-enthused (that's not a word, btw) to create my own AMV. First I latched onto my D-Me video, but then, on the way home, heard a song on the radio that sent me into gales of insanely gleeful laughter (I swear, if anyone saw me on the road they'd probably think I was having a seizure that night). Anyone out there who knows the feeling of suddenly hitting upon the PERFECT song for the PERFECT idea for an AMV can understand.
2. Actual making-of my "perfect" AMV did not get underway until November. Why? Well, there's this thing called money, which my full-time job does not provide me with enough of, and this thing called working-three-jobs-to-make-ends-meet that gets in the way of my free time. Yeah. Since I'm going back to school in 2006 for visual commnuications pursuits, I've got a different housing situation that negates rent and has freed up many hours for more liesurely pursuits, aka AMVing.
3. This "perfect" AMV is all in my head, of course, and everyone thinks their AMV project is perfect at some point. Let's just say that it takes Saiyuki, one of my favorite series (anime and mange, Saiyuki Reload and Gunlock excluded), slaps a healthy dose of wicked humor on it to the tune of a Robert Palmer song that, for anyone who's see my sig, knows the title of.
My lofty goal is to submit the AMV for Anime Boston 2006, which thankfully is being held in late May this year, giving me (I hope) adequate time to work on this project. When school starts, my free hours will go down the drain, but here's hoping I'll persevere.
Also of concern is whether my health will survive an AMV project. I really can't sit at a computer for more than 3 hours without suffering a severe, 24-hour migraine, intense shoulder and back pain, hip joint problems and a host of other fun ills. That's right boys and girls, stop spending all your time in front of a computer or you'll end up like me, a 28-year-old woman who, by the ripe age of 40, will probably feel more than 80. It's just not fair!!! I've got lots of friends who spend just as much time computing as I, and are perfectly healthy. Yes I exercise every day (3-mile walk), go to the gym 3 times a week and watch my Yodels.
Bah!! Enough of the sob story. I'll update this journal when I've made progress on my AMV.
Accomplishments so far:
-Sketchy introduction, aka 2 seconds, completed after much yelling at Premiere.
-Hacked song almost down to manageable length after much yelling at Audacity.
-Scanned/uploaded select panels from the first three volumes of Saiyuki manga.
-Increased my Saiyuki anime sources with five successful eBay auctions, confronting a suspected bootlegger along the way who will be reported to the eBay authorities if his response to my questions about the authenticity of his product is not to my satisfaction <----- *is very pleased with this*
Up next:
-Finish scanning/uploading manga.
-Pound out glitches in the song and speed it up 2-3%
-Lay out storyboard for manga use.
-Experiment with alternate AMV introductions, perhaps asking opinions in the ORG of what will work better. The style of the introduction will heavily influence the rest of the AMV.

Ok, let's be practical (ha!). I know VHDB like the back of my hand (and the song I wanted to use for it) and furthermore, it's not a bad idea. BACK TO SQUARE ONE.

Huh, almost two months ago I suffered the second of what will no doubt be a life-long series of massive hard drive failures. While this most recent cataclysm did not result in the speechless anguish of the first, it did do a very nice job of destroying all my AMV files, programs and progress. Thus, my unfortunate withdrawel from the Animix project.
Now, heading into the lonely winter months and bitten again by the mandibles of creative inspiration, I've obviously been drawn back here. This time, it's Anime Boston 2004 on my radar. While I'd love to be involved behind the scenes, it's not going to happen this year. But, there's that tantalizing AMV contest waving at me...
I can avoid the pitfalls of a lot of novices, I think: bad rips, bad music, lack of creativity... now I just need a whopper of an idea, a new set of vertebrae, much time on my hands and moral support. All of which I do not have, nor am likely to get (except the first).
In any event the following must happen before I can jump on board the crazy wagon again:
1. Get all my gear, again, and set it up.
2. Get my hard copy, again, and rip it.
3. Swear to finish this project - or don't even bother starting it. Goddamn it I have to finish SOMETHING on my own for once!!!

What am I doing writing this??
2003-09-25 09:32:44
I don't know, because I have a writing fetish?
In any case, not like anyone cares (this is sort of like talking to myself) BUT progress with Animix 4 #99 has resulted in six hours of actual Premiere-editing for a total of 4 seconds of footage I may or may not end up using. :(
The hang-up is my learn-as-I-go method. I also keep changing my mind about what clips to use. Not a good thing. STOP MESSING AROUND ALREADY!

Sidetracked already

No pun intended, either.
Yeah, Animix Track 4 #99 here I come. Smart me, figured since I already have all the footage, PLUS most of the clips I need for this as well as my struggling AMV, I should go for it. Good practice and all that. Everyone has 15 minutes of fame, I'm going to be happy if I get 30 seconds...
