JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • My bad 2005-12-16 14:31:53 In my eagerness to learn more about the Anime Boston AMV competition, I posed an inflamatory (apparently) question on their forums regarding the field of entries in past years. This ended up being a really bad thing because dokool misinterpreted (I think?) my purpose behind asking the question and the situation, thanks to my excessive posting habits, has been blown out of proportion. Consequently, I'm feeling really depressed. I figure I'll expansively apologize for getting so hyped (at some point); hopefully this will be acceptable. I am, after all, afflicted with a tempermental thyroid gland.

How are my AMV hours? I'm going to boost total time to about 70, though I've not kept accurate track. It's likely higher than this. If I can hold my computer together long enough to extract clips from all my VOB files, then I may actually start editing this wretched AMV someday. Quite honestly, I'm about to throw in the towel on this one in favor of my VHD AMV project, which, at the very least, does not required I deal with more than two hours of raw footage.
  • *yawn* 2005-12-05 09:30:28 Ok, I haven't been keeping up with my hours, largely because the bulk of them have been a waste of time. Why? Computer problems + Avisynth problems = not getting anywhere fast. I am therefore not going to count that time at all. -_-

In other news: I had to restart the AMV. Yeah, it's a lot worse than that, though, I had to restart it at a different framerate (different guides giving different project parameters is NOT helpful). This means all the work I did already has to be completely redone. The good part is that at least I know exactly what to do and am already pleased with the finished product. The bad part is that I had a LOT of technical problems getting to that finished product and I'm not looking forward to rehashing them.
  • grrrr 2005-11-28 14:49:04 This is a decent place to log my hours spent AMVing, I guess. Too bad I haven't kept track so far. Let's estimate work prior to Nov. 24 as 40 hours and take it from there.

    >Nov. 24: 40
    Nov. 24: 3
    Nov. 25: 5
    Total: 48 hours

And what have I accomplished, exactly?
    1. Edited song down to maneagable length/content/speed
    2. Set aside selected panels from Vols. 1-4 of Saiyuki manga
    3. Completed frst 8 seconds of AMV - which will most likely have to be completely redone because of mysterious Title Designer glitch. *makes Tom Cruise-like sound of frustration*

Hmm, registered for Anime Boston 2006 this weekend, locked in a hotel room at the convention center. Won't it be thrilling if I can actually finish this dratted AMV of mine, enter in the AMV contest and make it into the finals? YES My chances are pretty good, I think. I have excellent footage, good concept, clear storyboard, fun song and a creative mind. Of course, if anyone enters an FMA AMV in the humor category, I'm through. Damn those Edward Elric fangirls!!
  • edit 2005-11-23 17:16:49 "On the Internet (nevermind the real world) this attitude makes you a lot of enemies, but the good friends it'll also make you are far more important."

This isn't right, in fact, it's the opposite of the point I'm trying to make. On the Internet, standing up for what you believe in will make you a lot of enemies, but the good friends it'll also make are far more important. Ok?
  • Good god! It's become my personal blog! 2005-11-23 17:13:48 Jeez, now what would make me return here, scant hours after signing off with no intentions of an encore appearance? An overwhelming urge to get something off my chest without spamming the ORG's forums with my ranting and raving. I've done things like that before and, frankly, I'm not up to handling the fallout right now. Plus, well, see below.

So what's my beef? The attitude of some people around the ORG. I noticed and remarked upon it a week or so ago when a thread complaining about the banner design contest became filled to bursting with elitist, self-centered people. I stuck my foot in the door, said a few words about this being a site for FANS of anime and that, as such, any celebration of this fine hobby endorsed by the ORG should not be slandered. That was the end of that.
This elitist attitude got up my gizzard again today, and hence I'm here, spouting off, although I assure you, I've already stuck out my foot again in the forums, namely in a thread requesting some of the guides be updated. I detest people who can't stand up for what they believe in. On the Internet (nevermind the real world) this attitude makes you a lot of enemies, but the good friends it'll also make you are far more important. Effectively telling the thread starter that no one cares about his complaint (which is justified) and implying that this is a valid statement because they speak for the entire ORG community (which, in their view, apparently excludes anyone who is new to AMVing or otherwise incompetent - in their eyes) is just ... enraging to me. Of further frustration is the silence of others, and I know they're out there, who keep their hands off their keyboards for fear of being flamed.
Pfft, anyways, I sincerely hope noobies and veterans alike will not be turned off of anime, AMVs or the ORG because of the negative reception their perfectly decent comments may elicit in the forums. Yes, I'm looking at YOU, and I'm not going to drop names because anyone who cares will know exactly about whom I'm speaking. This elitist attitude some in the ORG have certainly soured MY experience here today, momentarily even causing me to wonder if I want to continue pursuing this hobby at this site if its leaving a bad taste in my mouth. That's the shame I was talking about - that a Web site created to further our enjoyment of anime is instead a place some people use to boost their egos by belittling others and excluding fellow anime fans from one of the most popular forms of this hobby. Please, don't let a bunch of very wormy apples ruin AMVs for you!

-_- I'm done. Yes, I'm talking to myself again. Honestly, Lauren, you need to stop this.
    But I can't. Damnit.
I said my piece in the forums already, and if someone really wants to make an issue out of it, then at least all I have to do is cut and paste!
