Sony Vegas pixelates my avi videos?

Post by notrigger » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:56 am

i'm using windows vista and at first when i put my avi video into sony vegas 8, only the audio would show up. i fixed this problem by downloading the 'vista codec pack' and now the avi video clip shows but for some reason the video comes up all pixelated:

is there a way to fix this problem? when i view the video clip in windows media player or VLC player it shows up fine with no glitches/pixelation.

i was wondering if i needed to download another codec that's vista friendly? if possible, i really don't want to convert my video because it takes too much time... i laso tried using the program 'gspot' but everything seemed to be running smoothly :/

Looks like you're editing Xvid or Divx in Vegas. That's a big no-no :nono:. You want to encode your sources with a lossless codec such as Lagarith or Huffy. But the encoding with these codecs makes the file size very huge so you might want an external hard drive or just exports the parts of the episode that you're going to edit with.

can vegas process avs scripts?

you could use directshow to load the video thats encoded.

I know its a work around for premiere

Vegas doesn't have a plugin to import avs files but you can make a fake avi from the avs file with Pismo File Mount Audit Package and another program whose name escapes me at the moment. Both are in the AMVApp.

Yeah, I tried to do that, but if you dont have a good processor on your computer it will load slow as hell. I tried to do that, but everything ran so slow that it was virtually impossible to use. Just moving the indicator line on the timeline took 10 seconds to load. If you have a good computer, then definitly go for it, but if you dont have a very good computer then I recommend just taking your avs into dbmod and creating real lossless avi clips.

From my experience working with fake.avs files is, Do not edit with a filtered script, Edit the video, Then edit the script, Then export the video etc., But the problem itself is because of XviD/DivX editing, Convert your footage to losless(huffy, lagarith) and work with that(but the file sizes are big, You have been warned).
