60fps and Vegas

Post by Mastamind » Sat Sep 12, 2009 12:36 pm

Hmm I guess this is the right forum but if it isn't, please move this to the Compression forum.
There's a video I've been working on that uses a lot of motion keyframes. Obviously, this movement would look a lot smoother if it was 60 frames per second, not the standard 30. It might be too late now, but I've given this some thought and decided hey, if I slow down the audio by half and make the video track longer, Vegas would create these extra keyframes and after I export it in regular 29.970fps, I could speed it up in another program, giving me 59.94fps. However, this would take a lot of time and I'd have to create an entirely new project.
Is this method efficient? I've seen the result of some plugins that interpolate extra frames such as in Skittles, Auriga and Running Man, but I'm not a big fan of those distorted frames. And is there even such a plugin for Vegas Pro?
I'm pretty new to the concept of 60fps in AMV's. But if someone could lend a hand here, I'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance :)

Can't you just change your projects framerate to 60?

Thanks for making me feel like an idiot. But wouldn't that require me to start the project anew? Or can I really just change the settings in the middle of the project?

Make a backup of your project just incase, then just try it and see.

like zarx said create a backup first, however as long as you keep the framerate on a whole number ratio to the original i cant really see their being an issue, because all you are going to be doing is having 2 of the same frame (until you modify it in whatever way you choose).

Just to make sure you know, while changing the vegas project settings will make in program effects and camera moves 60FPS. The footage itself will, for all intents and purposes, still look 29.970fps. If you want something that looks like running man, arugia or skittles, you'll have to find a program to actually interpolate the frames. not just double them.

Yeah, I know. The video I'm working on has a lot of camera movement, and I'm applying the use of keyframes to create something else ( ) that will definitely look a lot better if it's 60fps... The fact that the anime itself won't look any smoother doesn't bother me at all (I'd rather keep it normal than have the distorted frames you see in those videos), and anyways I don't know if there's a similar plugin for vegas.
I'm about to change the settings, I'll keep this updated within an hour or so...

Wow  that came out looking a lot cooler than I expected.
Did what you suggested, Zarxrax, and it came out working great. Only a minor problem though... I had made a preset for lagarith when exporting as avi, and for some reason that preset got erased. I just made another one though, but still I wonder what happened. Guess it doesn't really matter.
Anyways, thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it :D
