Crispy Edge

Post by -Vyse- » Thu May 21, 2009 7:18 am

Hey fellas,

here´s another problem i encountered which i´m sure you all know how to solve.
When i export my video from Adobe Premiere, it always has this nice crispy edges, as you can see below. In Premiere, everything´s still looking fine.
I assume it has something to do with the pixel aspect ratio, am i right? I know this is a newbie.question, but that´s what i am... i searched the forum for a while but i couldn´t find anything helpful.
Please help me! Much appreciated.

On your timeline, zoom all the way out so you can see every clip. Click on the rectangular highlight tool, then highlight all of the clips with your mouse.

Now, go up to the Clip menu->Video options->Field options, and uncheck 'Deinterlace below 100%'.

Note: I use Premiere 6.5; newer versions may have those options in different places.

If the above fixed it, then the distortion would only have occurred on the specific clips you'd slowed down.

However, if it didn't fix it, then it probably does have to do with Premiere's interpreting of the PAR or resizing on export. You want to make sure that the PAR and export resolution both match your input source footage.

If you resized to 640x480 or 848x480 (or 768x576, 1024x576) before editing, then use Square Pixels. If you're editing at the resolution right as it came off the DVD, then choose the proper PAR for the DVD (which depends on NTSC or PAL and whether the DVD is 4:3, or 16:9 anamorphic). Make sure that the Export and internal Project settings both have the same resolution as well.

Thank you!

In Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 i can´t find that option, but "Interlace Consecutive Frames" seems to do the job, too. At the least i´ve got smooth edges now - thanks! =)
