in need of some advice

Hi, I've decided to pick up making AMV's as a hobby. what software could you suggest for a first timer?

if your willing to learn I suggest you buckle down with Adobe premier, and the guides linked to on the front page.

If your not so willing to learn try Sony Vegas and use the video tutorial linked to in the guides. Sorry I'm not helpfull enough to give you links lol.

What the heck is synonymous between Vegas and not being willing to learn? That's officially the dumbest comment I've heard on these boards. Way to go.

don't hate the playa' :/ but if ya inta playa hatein' than I'll just say I meant it's easier to get into. it's at a lower learning curve than Premeire... aah forget it, I have a feeling that whatever I say will come out as an insult to you

Oh, it won't be insulting, per se. I own and use both programs. I just can't say that Premiere really has anything over Vegas (or vice versa) except maybe Premiere integrates with other Adobe programs better, but even those aren't hard to use alongside Vegas.

Basically, what I'm getting at is that pretty much anything you can do in one you can also do in the other. Oh, except, to my knowledge, you can't create freeform masks in Premiere. You would have to have a separate program for that - probably After Effects or Photoshop (or some free program like the GIMP).

Vegas is a lot more intuitive to use imo. I used to avoid it because my main workhorse app is After Effects, and Adobe products do have pretty good integration with one another, but after trying out Vegas I'm hooked. For editing short-format stuff with lots of video and audio clips, Vegas just feels faster and more intuitive to work with. Premiere is powerful, but it feels sluggish and clunky for dense, hectic projects like modern music videos.

For someone just starting out, I'd strongly recommend Vegas instead of Premiere, and I'm still an Adobe fangirl.

You don't need an editing program!
Just get yourself a HUGE tablet and draw some animation on the pages
then flip through the book really fast and be sure to have some music playing.

Instant AMV... er... AMB!! (Anime Music Book)
Be careful to avoid paper cuts though...

If you do wanna take the actual editing program route, its best to try trials of differen't editors to see what you like best.

Differen't people prefer differen't things.
For example, I would recommend adobe premier
Its the first program I ever used and I find it more easier than some other editors I tried.

BTW don't playa hate on Ben
He's trying really hard to make sense ^_^
